ARKxSITE Announces Winners of Site Mausoleum Competition Posted: 19 Sep 2019 09:00 PM PDT ArkxSite has announced the winners of its international architecture ideas competition. The competition has invited all architecture students and young architects to develop innovative ideas for the design of a Site Mausoleum located in the Jaspe Quarry, 'Serra da Arrábida', Portugal. The site is of great natural power as the remains of an old quarry are carved into its landscape, along with massive cliffs that drop dramatically into the Atlantic Ocean. The competition committee wanted participants to develop an intervention that emphasizes, respects, and celebrates the site, all while providing visitors with a unique experience of movement between enclosed and open spaces. Ray Kappe on SCI-Arc and Architectural Challenges Posted: 19 Sep 2019 12:45 AM PDT "Clashes and Intersections" is an ongoing, one-on-one YouTube interview series with architects, theorists, and curators. The interviews begin with the question, "What do you consider your first project to be?" By initiating a dialogue between the practical and theoretical frameworks that have formed the interviewee's work, this question aims to develop an understanding of reactions and critiques to historic, conceptual, and cultural events. In addition, it allows us to cross-examine the relationship, or lack thereof, between the participants. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The Great Tiny House Debate: What it Means to Downsize the Dream Posted: 18 Sep 2019 10:00 PM PDT The dream of a home in the suburbs with a white picket fence is changing. Between housing crises and homelessness, mounting debt and downsizing, home ownership has become increasingly less attainable.
