BIG Designs New Gondola for Oakland Athletics Baseball Team Posted: 06 Feb 2019 08:00 PM PST Bjarke Ingels Group has designed an expansive cable-car system to connect to the new Oakland Athletics baseball stadium. The new stadium will replace the Oakland A's existing 51-year-old Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as a waterfront "jewel box" at Howard Terminal. At the Oakland A's FanFest, the A's President Dave Kaval unveiled the new Gondola connecting the Oakland Convention Center to Water Street at Jack London Square. The zero-emission transit line will provide residents and visitors with a way to see the A's play in their future ballpark. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Foster's Norton Museum Expansion Celebrates Grand Opening Posted: 06 Feb 2019 05:00 AM PST The new Norton Museum of Art expansion by Foster + Partners will celebrate its grand opening this weekend in West Palm Beach, Florida. Two years after the ceremonial groundbreaking, the museum will open its doors to the public and showcase a new street frontage with a transparent entrance lobby. The plan preserves the institution's original 1941 east wing and the logic of architect Marion Sims Wyeth's initial plan. The project aimed to transform the existing buildings into a world-class cultural destination within a sub-tropical garden. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The Profound Symbolism of the Jewish Museum, Through the Lens of Bahaa Ghoussainy Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:00 AM PST In the heart of Berlin resides an architectural metaphor of invisibility, emptiness, and anarchy forged by the Second World War upon the Jewish citizens. The expansion of the original Jewish museum, which was first organized as an anonymous competition by the Berlin government, was proposed as a means of bringing back Jewish presence, retracing their culture and religion into the German city. Renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, who was chosen to develop the project, used architecture as a form of expression, and created a museum that narrates the Jewish civilization before, during, and after the Holocaust. MoMA Releases Opening Date and New Images of Major Diller Scofidio + Renfro Expansion Posted: 06 Feb 2019 01:00 AM PST The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has announced an October 2019 opening date of its Diller Scofidio + Renfro / Gensler-designed extension, which will offer 40,000 square feet of gallery space for the iconic institution in Midtown Manhattan. The expansion features two key additions, with the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio creating a double-height space for live and experimental programming, and the Paula and James Crown Platform offering experimental, creative pace to explore ideas, questions, and processes that arise from MoMA's collection. The project has not been without controversy, with considerable backlash generated from the decision to demolish the American Folk Art Museum in order to make way for the new expansion. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in January 2014, DS+R principal Liz Diller embraced the criticism, saying "we would be on the same side if we didn't know all the details that we know."
