Milan City Guide: 20 Projects to See in Italy's Fashion Capital Posted: 04 May 2022 12:30 AM PDT A global city and cosmopolitan hub, Milan is mainly recognised today as a fashion and economic center, widely coveted by visitors from around the world. It is the second most populated city in Italy and hosts some of the major fashion and design related events in the world. Milan also houses prestigious educational institutions, many of which are renowned for heritage and conservationist specialties. The latter is quite relevant, seeing as the city's most recognisable tourist attractions are the gothic Duomo di Milano, Santa Maria delle Grazia or the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, amongst other classical and baroque sites. It's in fact this marriage of the beautifully crafted and often ornamental heritage with the modern and contemporary monuments that makes its unique style. Less Delays, More Time to Design: An Online Payment Solution for Architects Posted: 03 May 2022 11:45 PM PDT Although some may question it, architecture is essentially a service industry. And like in all services, the process itself (meetings, invoices, payments) can be just as important as the end result (the finished project). At the end of the day, if you offer a coherent, efficient and well-structured service that complements a good design, clients will be satisfied and are likely to return. They will also spread the word and recommend the office, which is ultimately the best way for design professionals to build a good reputation and attract new customers. Many boxes must be checked to provide a good service. But perhaps one of the most crucial involves billing and payments, which are vital for cashflow and thus fundamental for businesses. In project-based industries like architecture and design, fees are usually paid out in various installments defined by specific time frames, from the initial design delivery to construction. Therefore, receiving a consistent, predictable income in all stages is indispensable; it avoids non-payments and delays that can hinder project delivery and cause complicated situations. Studio Other Spaces Designs Wine Tasting Pavilion in California Posted: 03 May 2022 10:30 PM PDT Studio Other Spaces, founded by artist Olafur Eliasson and architect Sebastian Behmann, envisioned a wine tasting pavilion for California wine producer The Donum Estate that weaves together various elements of the site in what the designers describe as a vertical panorama. The project essentializes a vertical cut through the landscape and the conditions that make for a thriving vineyard, proposing a holistic experience addressing all senses. The roof's coloured glass tiles represent an abstract calendar depicting the yearly averages of parameters such as wind intensity, temperature and humidity. Dialogues Between Architecture and Context: Getting to Know the Work of Brasil Arquitetura Posted: 03 May 2022 10:00 PM PDT Nothing is more representative for an office than carrying the name of the country on its identity. Far from seeming banal, the architecture of Brazil in Brasil Arquitetura undergoes a thorough analysis that highlights aspects of Brazilian culture and society. Decompression Area: Ideas for Leisure and Rest Environments in the Office Posted: 03 May 2022 09:30 PM PDT Even before we got used to remote work, some offices were already concerned about the well-being of their teams and how to attract new talent to work in their physical spaces. In this context, the decompression rooms had already become fundamental parts of the architectural program to demonstrate that the company is concerned with encouraging people to live together, relieving everyday pressure and bringing moments of pleasure during the workday. Currently, when many have already returned to the offices, environments like this have become increasingly essential to ensure the well-being of the employee, as well as improve their performance.
