Sometimes you just need to let it all out in string of more than 30 tweets. President-elect Donald Trump continued his reoccurring Saturday night ritual of watching Alec Baldwin impersonate him on Saturday Night Live before angrily tweeting his dislike for the show and Baldwin's portrayal.
While this may seem typical for Trump, many were angered that he would pay so much attention to a comedy show that has a history of poking fun at the country's president, especially when there are so many more important issues to take on at this time. While any tweet Trump sends out is bound to get a variety of responses, Danielle Muscato's string of tweets deserves special recognition. Read more... The NFL had a pair of games unfold under snowy conditions that made for a pair of fun snow angel moments. Too bad it lived up to its reputation as the "No Fun League." The San Francisco 49ers, a team from a city that rarely sees snow, enjoyed playing in the white stuff against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday. At least, until the refs got involved. On a Bears punt attempt, 49ers defender Shaun Draughn managed to block the punt and teammate Dontae Johnson picked up the loose ball and ran it in for a touchdown. Dakota Access pipeline opponents just scored a huge victory
Opponents of the Dakota Access Pipeline erupted in cheers on Sunday after U.S. regulators rejected a final permit needed to complete the controversial pipeline. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it won't grant an easement that would've allowed the pipeline's builders to run the conduit under Lake Oahe, a reservoir on the Missouri River near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. The decision is an enormous victory for the thousands of people camped near the disputed construction site. Native American activists and their allies have insisted that the $3.8 billion project would threaten the region's water supplies and damage sacred sites. Critics also noted the 1,170-mile pipeline would boost U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by allowing for increased oil production in North Dakota's shale region. Read more... More than two months after the launch of ill-fated Note7, we still don't know what caused the batteries in some of the devices to overheat and, in some cases, explode. A new report by Instrumental, a company that helps tech companies fix manufacturing issues, suggests that the reason behind the Note7 issues was Samsung pushing the boundaries of the design a little too far. More precisely, Instrumental — after tearing down and examining a Note7 — found that the Note7's battery sits too tightly within the device, so that pressure from normal operation (such as sitting down while having the phone in your back pocket) can cause layers of lithium cobalt oxide and graphite to touch. This should never happen, as it can cause overheating and an explosion. Read more... Starboy, which was released November 25, debuted at No. 1 with 348,000 equivalent album units sold. Amazon's splashy video for Amazon Go — an all-seeing, all-knowing store where customers can grab items, toss 'em in a bag or pocket and just walk out without ever waiting in line — has obvious appeal. So obvious, in fact, that another tech company proposed the exact same concept more than 10 years ago. An IBM ad showcasing a smart store got major circulation on the airwaves in 2006 (when YouTube was nascent). It features a nefarious-looking character in a trench coat wandering the aisles of a supermarket, stuffing his pockets with items as other patrons and security guards shoot him looks of suspicion. As he exits the store through what looks like a security gate that "flashes" him, the guard calls out, "Excuse me, sir!" Read more... Imagine trying to climb a mountain without using your hands. That's what it's been like using an Oculus Rift since the category-defining virtual reality headset landed in March. The Touch controllers, available Dec. 6, change all of that. Oculus Touch at last gives Rift users a way to interact with VR environments using their hands. Until now, Rift experiences have been limited to experiences that rely on a standard video game controller or the headset's included remote control. The moon-shaped controllers arrive as a pair, one for each hand. They're not nearly as bulky as the wands for the HTC Vive, and their natural contours guide you to a comfortable, button-accessible grip every time you pick them up. Read more... LONDON — In the desperate scavenge for crumbs of information about Game of Thrones Season 7, any line — no matter how brief or throwaway — will do. During a recent appearance at Malta India Fan Con 2016, actor Alfie Allen (a.k.a. everyone's favourite slowly-redeeming-himself Ironborn, Theon Greyjoy) took questions from Thrones fans. To be honest, he remained pretty tight-lipped. Despite the audience sneaking in questions about a potential Jon Snow/Daenerys alliance and asking about how the Greyjoys and Daenerys might get on in the next Season, Allen wasn't giving too much away. Jimmy Kimmel will host 2017 Oscars
Is Jimmy Kimmel the new Neil Patrick Harris? After a second stint hosting the Emmys in September, Kimmel will barely have time to dust off his host hat before he hosts the 2017 Academy Awards (which, like Jimmy Kimmel Live!, air on ABC). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel will host the Oscar ceremony, which takes place on Feb. 26, 2017. A rep for Kimmel did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment. Kimmel hosted the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, also on ABC, earlier this year as well as in 2012. This will be his first time as master of ceremonies at the Oscars, which were hosted by Harris in 2015 and Chris Rock in 2016. Read more... Four years ago, Melbourne resident Matt Willis crashed his bike. He didn’t know that the next two months in hospital would transform his life. During his time off work, the design consultant discovered the Vine app and began producing stop motion videos, bringing to life ordinary household items in seamless six-second clips. Eight months into his Vine career, Willis was approached by brands that were interested in collaborating on stop motion videos, and yelldesign was born. Now in his fourth year, Willis heads up a team of nine video artists, illustrators, sound designers and paper crafters to make viral stop motion videos for clients such as Visa, Twitter, Samsung and more. Success accompanied the growth: In 2014, yelldesign was nominated for a Vine creativity Streamy award and two Tropvine awards at Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival. Read more... The Last Guardian is clearly a metaphor for the painfully adorable hellscape that your life becomes when you raise a puppy. I have a puppy. He's able to be alone now for long stretches of time without killing himself, but there was a six-month period in his life when it was all I could do to keep him alive, clean, and not murdered. His delightful puppy wriggling and whimpering helped a lot in those darker moments. There were months of my life where I would commute home from an abbreviated work day with no real notion of what I was walking into. Would the puppy still be breathing? Would he have shit smeared all over him? Would he somehow manage to cover himself in pink makeup, or something equally implausible? Read more... Frank Loesser's 1944 Christmas song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" tends to creep listeners out with its sexually charged call-and-response lyrics, and a distinct lack of consent from the song's female perspective. With this in mind, a Minnesota couple reworked the lyrics of the winter classic to emphasize sexual consent in a fresh, funny way. Lydia Liza and Josiah Lemanski tell CNN they penned the new lyrics over the course of an hour, and recorded the song on Wednesday in just 15 minutes. In troubling news, a paper from researchers at Newcastle University in the UK claims that Visa's credit-card payment system can be compromised online in "as little as six seconds." The security flaw was possibly the point of entry for the cyber-attack on the UK's Tesco Bank that lost £2.5 million. This isn't some high-level hacking going on here either — all it takes for a determined thief to grab a treasure trove full of card data is a laptop with an internet connection and some basic guesswork, the paper says. The team of researchers, led by PhD student Mohammed Ali, call the method "the Distributed Guessing Attack." It's a simple approach: a thief generates random numbers to guess combinations of card numbers, expiration dates and CVV codes (that three-digit number typically found on the back of the card). The video below demonstrates just how easy it is to generate all of these fields quickly: Read more... If there was ever a way to get scolded for fashion choices, Cam Newton would surely figure out how. The Carolina Panthers quarterback — whose fancy post-game attire defines him as much as his MVP-calibre skills on the field — was benched for the first play of Carolina's loss to Seattle on Sunday after violating the Panthers' dress code. Newton didn't wear a tie on the team flight into Seattle because — obviously — it didn't go with his outfit. Speaking to the media in the offending outfit after the 40-7 loss, Newton said he hadn't packed a collared shirt after being away from home for a week, and couldn't rock a tie over his turtleneck.
