Green Day is the band we deserve and need right now

Back in September, before the release of Revolution Radio, I walked into a small venue in New Jersey expecting to see an excellent rock show.

What I got was a lot more.

When I went to the merch table to buy a tour shirt to commemorate the event (I mean, when was I ever going to see Green Day in a club again?), I was distracted by another one of the band's shirts which read "No Racism, No Sexism, No Homophobia." I bought that one instead.

It was at that moment that I rediscovered what a gem this band really is. Not only are Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool excellent musicians who have helped to shape the modern punk and pop-punk genres, but they are also great advocates. Read more...

NFL kickers were really, really bad this week

NFL kickers set a new record on Sunday, but it's not one worth boasting about.

Kickers missed a combined 12 PATs — the field goal teams kick after scoring a touchdown that's often considered guaranteed — edging the previous record of 10 botched kicks set 46 years ago. Two kickers, Mike Nugent and Robbie Gould, each missed two PATs on Sunday.

Why so many? Well, in 2015 the NFL increased the PAT distance, leaving kickers with a 33-yard attempt instead of a relatively automatic 20-yard attempt. Kickers struggled with the change last season, but this year it's reached new lows.

Clearly, PATs aren't as easy as they once were.  Read more...

Forget Black Friday. This charity site will help you start a 'giving revolution.'

When Hitha Palepu's son, Rho, was about to turn one year old, she was overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and family wanting to get him presents. But when everyone asked her what Rho wanted for his birthday, she shot back with a simple answer: "No gifts."

As Palepu looked around her typically small New York City apartment, imagining it cluttered with gifts her family didn't need, she came up with the idea for NO.GIFTS—an online charity platform helping users go giftless, just in time for Black Friday.

Co-founded by Palepu and Cisco executive Samira Panah, the new site enables users to mount personalized donation pages for their favorite nonprofits, in lieu of physical gifts. They can also upload videos and photos, explaining why they don't want friends and family to shop for them on Black Friday—a day that seems to arrive earlier and earlier every year, and has even turned deadly. Crowdfunding is giving parents all the baby gear they didn't know they needed

In the past, people looked to child development experts, pediatricians and other parents for advice on what gadgets and tools were best for everything from how to avoid diaper rash to how to survive a long car trip with kids.

These days, new parents can add another source of inspiration to their toolboxes: crowdfunding.

Better breast pumps, shoes that grow with your baby, a self propelled stroller and babywearing clothing for caretakers of any sex are a few products aimed at parents that have been totally crowdfunded.  Read more...

How the Trump transition is being run like a Miss Universe pageant

Donald Trump continues to run his presidential transition like a Miss Universe contest: lots of smiles and pageantry for the camera, but ultimately, a shallow exercise in showmanship. And one that changes little, if anything at all. It's just Trump's doing what Trump does best: kicking up a storm of publicity and tantalizing possibilities that distract his audience from the administration he's building.

And he knows just how to spin out a sideshow or two to keep the masses occupied, instead of allowing the audience's gaze to linger too long on the more nefarious aspects of the first steps of his administration. Read more...

Can we take a minute to talk about female friendships in 'The Walking Dead?'

This post contains spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7, episode 5, titled "Go Getters." If you missed the episode, check out our recap.

Every woman knows that female friendships are extremely important

Women are traditionally pitted against each other in the workplace and in pop culture. They're often portrayed fighting over a man, their careers or a multitude of other things, sometimes just for the titillation of a male audience. Some argue that this is dangerous, because if women are too busy fighting each other, they can't band together to fight injustices in our society. (Gee, thanks, patriarchy.) Read more...

Jurgen Klinsmann, the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) head coach since 2011, was fired on Monday by U.SSoccer.

Klinsmann compiled a 55-27-16 record as head coach including 16 victories in 2013, an all-time high for a USMNT calendar year.

Rory Gilmore is not a good journalist

LOS ANGELES — In the new series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Rory Gilmore seems at a crossroads with her career.

She had just been freelancing around the globe (specifically London), and now she's back in Stars Hollow soul searching.

For some, it may be hard to see why Rory didn't make it big in the journalism world.

Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said in a recent interview she wishes people were less obsessed with which boyfriend Rory ends up with and more with her career path.

"It’s just such a small part of who Rory is," she told TIME. "I don’t see people debating 'Did she win a Pulitzer yet?'" Read more...

'League of Legends' team's board game is a labor of love

Did you know there's a board game based on the most played video game in the world?

Riot Games is a household name in the video game community, despite only having one title to its name: League of Legends. The free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) earned $1.6 billion in 2015, which is why the studio raised eyebrows when it announced a tabletop game.

Mechs vs. Minions doesn’t look or feel like a first effort from a studio that has solely existed in the digital realm. The $75 package — a steal for the quality on offer — includes more than 100 miniatures, fully painted hero figures, hefty cardboard tiles and even a few metal tracking tokens.  Read more...

New 'League of Legends' champion Camille revealed

There's a brand-new League of Legends champion, and her name is Camille.

She blends quick movement, one-on-one proficiency and support abilities to form a solid solo-laner that can be a helpful asset in team fights — as long as she doesn't get into the thick of it.

Along with Camille's reveal, Riot Games mentioned that she is a difficult champion to master and "noticeably less effective in the hands of an unpracticed player." Her abilities show exactly what that means.

Camille's abilities

Camille's passive ability is Adaptive Defenses, which is exactly what makes her great at duels. When she uses a basic attack on a champion, she gets a shield that protects her against that champion's primary damage type. The shield's strength scales with her maximum HP, making her a very formidable opponent in a 1v1 situation. Read more...

Did Trump orchestrate the 'Hamilton' debacle to distract us or is life just a distraction?

Is Donald Trump deliberately trying to distract us, or are we just witnessing another poorly-timed facet of his perplexing character?

This is the question that came to mind after Trump unsurprisingly dominated headlines over the weekend for an unexpected reason.

One might assume that President-elect Trump settling his Trump University fraud lawsuit for $25 million on Saturday would be the talk of the town, instead, everyone was buzzing about the conveniently-timed fight he decided to pick with the cast of Hamilton.

YouTuber Casey Neistat says goodbye to vlogging

LOS ANGELES — Casey Neistat is officially over vlogging.

The YouTuber, who recently won a Streamy for best first-person show, said goodbye to his daily vlog on Saturday.

“It’s not clickbait. I really am ending the vlog,” he said in his farewell video (above), which has amassed more than 4.7 million views.

Why? The 35-year-old, who starred in his own HBO show before becoming a popular YouTube star, said he feels he's "gotten lazy on this platform."

Vlogging became too easy after he "found a rhythm." Since joining YouTube in 2010, Neistat has built a following of 5.8 million subscribers.

“When I think back to why I started this vlog, I spent so much of that time sitting here talking to you about this premise about this idea that I need to challenge myself creatively," he said. "That’d I’d gotten lazy on this platform and I haven’t been posting. And by issuing a mandate to post every single day I would challenge myself creatively in a way I have never done before. And that’s exactly what happened.” Read more...

‘Search Party’ premiere party celebrates comedy, mystery and beautifully executed dark humor

A few of the scenes in TBS’ new dark comedy, Search Party, are so awkwardly funny they’re cringe-worthy. Others touch upon more serious issues – the self-centered culture of Brooklyn’s millennial, hipster youth; the very real feeling of being a driftlessly ambivalent twenty-something; strained mother/daughter relationships. Throw in a dash of mystery and expertly executed comic relief, and it’s a winning combination.

The show’s back and forth storytelling — between serious tension and laugh-out-loud hilarity — proves an effective storytelling device.

The art of making a mystery in the world of smartphones

Picture this: You’re out at Sunday brunch with your friends — mimosas all around! — and suddenly the conversation turns to something no one knows the answer to.

Perhaps it’s an obscure plot point from a childhood movie. (“I’ll Google it!”) Or a question about the girl who sat behind you in history class. (“I’ll find her on Facebook.”) Or what’s the capital of Azerbaijan, anyway? (“It’s Baku! I looked it up.”)

There aren’t many questions that go unanswered these days. Thanks to the smartphone you carry around in your pocket, any shred of uncertainty is quickly solved.

There is an art to creating a mystery series in this modern age of 24/7 information, smartphones and social media. It’s something that Search Party co-creators Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers know all too well.    Read more...

Donald Trump's grandfather was banned from Germany for avoiding military service

Donald Trump's approach to military service is well established — the president-elect avoided the draft five times, once for bad feet — but it turns out his grandfather shared his reluctance to head to the front line for his country.

Friedrich Trump, Donald's grandfather on his father Fred's side, was kicked out of Germany in 1905 for failing to complete mandatory service, according to a royal decree unearthed by a historian and submitted to German newspaper Bild.

He was permanently banished for emigrating to the U.S. in 1885 without giving the authorities notice of his departure, thus blocking his repatriation and establishing the Trump family in America for good. Read more...

The Smithsonian is acquiring the original Ice Bucket Challenge bucket

In case you've somehow managed to avoid being "challenged" or had no internet access in 2014, here's a recap. This robot teach can teach you how to code by climbing on walls

First of all, it’s designed to teach coding skills to everyone from kindergarten to adulthood. Second, it's potentially more fun than most because it's programming can be carried out vertically — or at least on any wall with metal behind or on it, which may make it the perfect classroom robot since there's a metal-backed whiteboard at the front of most classrooms. The UK could bring in $1 billion in tax revenue by legalizing pot, report says

The UK should completely legalize marijuana because the industry could be worth some $8.5 billion and bring in tax revenue of around $1.3 billion annually, a new report suggests.

The idea of following in the footsteps of several U.S. states and legalizing the industry is suggested in a new publication, "The Tide Effect," from free-market think tank The Adam Smith Institute and Volteface, a drug policy innovation hub.

The new approach to pot policy in the UK — one that's as lucrative as it is radical — has gained the support of a cross-party collection of British politicians, including former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.  Read more...

In 2016, that cycle might finally be broken.

Here's how it went in years past:

First, a major national retailer would announce its new, earliest-of-the season-operating hours for Thanksgiving Day. The most extreme case may have been back in 2013, when Kmart pushed the envelope with a 6 a.m. start to its holiday sales.  Read more...

The future of high-speed travel could take place in this Hyperloop pod

If Elon Musk gets his way, we'll not only send humans to Mars, but also make the Earth commute significantly more speedy.

One solution? A ground transport system known as a Hyperloop that could potentially move people-bearing pods in sealed tubes at the speed of sound. Imagine, say, travelling from Sydney to Melbourne in only 50 minutes.

To promote experimentation in the fledging industry, Musk's SpaceX created the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition, and one of 30 finalists was unveiled Monday night in Melbourne, Australia. Read more...

How to protect yourself while online shopping for the holidays

With many retailers offering internet-only promotions to go along with their in-store doorbusters, more Americans than ever seem to be choosing to stay home to take advantage of the best deals of the season.

Research from Visa projects an 18 percent increase in online holiday spending this year, which follows 16 percent growth over the 2015 season from the year before. That uptick in 2015 resulted in about $11 billion of online sales over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend period (Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday).

Dude at work bitten by a godforsaken snake twice in 2 days

Your job is tough, sure. But have you ever been bitten by a snake at work, twice in two days? This lucky guy has.

While clearing a paddock on a Queensland property in Australia, an 18-year-old man was bitten by a "brown-coloured" snake on his lower leg and air-lifted to hospital Friday. He was treated for the bite and sent home.

Bravely returning to work on Monday, the contractor was bitten. Again. This time twice on his left forearm.

Airlifted to the hospital once more, and in an understandable amount of pain, the courageous guy was unable to recall if it was the same wrathful snake, biting him repeatedly. Or rather, two angry snakes, perhaps working as a team to bring the labouring dude down. Read more...

San Franciscans get a taste of life below the poverty line in new ad campaign

The tech industry has put San Francisco at the heart one of the biggest waves of wealth creation in history.

But a huge number of the city's residents have seen little of its spoils.

For them, the skyrocketing cost of living has turned everyday life in their hometown into a starkly different reality from that of its wealthier inhabitants.

That experience gap served as the inspiration for a new ad campaign from low-income relief group Tipping Point, which seeks to put viewers in the shoes of San Franciscans living below the poverty line.  Read more...

Grocery chain rails against holiday commercialism … in holiday commercial

Christmas commercials are probably about the last place you'd expect to see a morality tale about the ills of holiday materialism run amok.

Yet that's the message delivered in a bold new ad from German grocery chain Edeka.

And it works surprisingly well.

Backed by a voiceover of rhyming verses, the ad follows a couple as they scramble to prepare for Christmas. Along the way, they seem to spurn their despondent kids, who only want to spend time with them.

"Still need stuff from every store. Still need to do so, so much more," a translated version of the narrator's poem reads. "Still need to bake the coolest cakes. Still need to trudge through the markets 'til I ache." Read more...

Add emus to the list of Australian wildlife you should totally avoid

There's nothing quite like a leisurely bike ride. Except when that bike ride turns into being chased by a giant flightless bird. Those bike rides suck.

Australian man Chris Wilson was cycling around Cotter Dam at the outskirts of Canberra when he paused by the road to take in his picturesque surroundings. He spotted a couple of emus grazing in the sun and tried to capture a photo.

As misfortune would have it, these emus were camera shy to the point of agression — turning Wilson's photo op turned into a Man vs. Wild moment.

Australia has some messed up stories behind some of its place names

To the rest of the world Australia is a pretty weird place, with its odd animals and plethora of quirky and rude place names.

But it's the more benign place names that have a dark history. And one that's been documented in a recently-released book by Australian author Eamon Evans, Mount Buggery To Nowhere Else.

Famed for its pleasant beaches and an abundance of kale-eating hipsters, the city of Fremantle's name, for example, comes from British Royal Navy officer Sir Charles Howe Fremantle. A person of noble birth, his stature helped him escape punishment for a heinous crime.   Read more...

Dumb dude tries to buy beer with a photocopied Rs 2,000 note in Mumbai, gets caught

Google Home discounted to $99 for Thanksgiving

A lot of Black Friday deals aren't actually as good as they seem. Gadgets which have been on the market for months, if not years, are seemingly discounted from their original price, but in reality their price should be — and, at some retailers, often is —  much lower in the first place.

Google's speaker/digital assistant Google Home, however, has only been on the market for a few weeks, and it's already getting a sizable discount for the holidays, with price being slashed from $129 to $99.

Since Google Home is already a lot cheaper than its main competitor, Amazon Echo, this is a pretty sweet deal if you're shopping for a smart speaker.  Read more...

Google predicts the most popular gifts this year

Still not sure what to put at the top of your shopping list this year? Google might be able to help.

The company has released its predictions for what will be this season's most sought after toys and gifts and — surprise, surprise — the top results may be more than a little difficult to find.

The company used search data for the first two weeks of November to come up with its predictions and the top items may not be much of a surprise.

Topping the list is Hatchimals, toy creatures that "hatch" out of an egg after you buy them. Unfortunately, you might be out of luck if you were hoping to get one in time for Santa. The toy, which typically retails for around $60, is already so popular many retailers have sold out, according to the company's website, and resellers are reportedly selling the toys for as much as $200-$300.  Read more...

Deer playing possum in a trunk, almost pays the ultimate price

The Adams County, Wisconsin Sheriff's Office shared this clip on its Facebook page of a fawn waking up moments before it would've been put down.

The video recorded a conversation between the driver who found the fawn unconscious at a trailer park, and the police officer who would have had to put it down. The driver says he'd decided to move the deer out of the trailer park before calling the police.

Just as thee officer prepared to carry out this unfortunate task, the startled deer woke up.

The confused officer asked the deer, "Are you okay?" before it took off. The deer did not respond.

While it's unclear what caused the fawn to lose consciousness, the Facebook post used the hashtag, "#DeerPlayingPossum" which could offer one explanation. This deer should leave playing dead to possums.  Read more...

Dog's new haircut bears strong resemblance to '90s Justin Timberlake

Faking enthusiasm for a bad haircut is always a challenge, but this woman didn't hold back when her mom gave the family dog a new 'do.

Twitter user @lindsaymartin15 shared pics of her formerly beautiful dog, Wembley, before and after her mom gave him a drastic hairdo. Before his haircut, Wembley was a majestic ball of fluff and afterwards, he was...well, you'll see.

Just look at that hi-top:

Snapchat vs Facebook: Can the underdog get big enough, fast enough?

Facebook casts a long shadow.

Now worth more than $340 billion, the social network lords over the biggest platform in the history of mankind. The company has either bought up its direct competitors or relegated them to also-rans. Few companies outside of Google, Amazon or Apple can consider themselves serious rivals to Facebook.

Snapchat wants to be in that discussion.

The little app that could is now preparing what will be one of the largest U.S. tech IPOs ever, and the biggest since, well, Facebook. Snapchat's reportedly going to be valued somewhere between $20 billion and $25 billion.

Facebook and Snapchat have always had something of a big brother-little brother dynamic. Both companies have dorm-room roots, grew rapidly among a core young audience, and rapidly iterated their products. Facebook had a seven-year head start, however, and has already gone through most of its growing pains. Read more...

Here's where we left off with everyone on 'Gilmore Girls'

The day we have been waiting for is almost at hand, and no, we’re not talking about Thanksgiving. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premieres on Netflix Friday.

Just in case it’s been awhile since you’ve been to a Friday night dinner at the Gilmore’s, we’ve got the rundown on where all of your favorite characters ended up at the end of Season 7. Oy with the poodles already.

Rory Gilmore
Last we saw Rory, she had finally done it — she’d graduated Yale!

Immediately after throwing her cap in the air, she turned down Logan’s awful proposal, opting instead to embrace the unknowns ahead of her. Rejected by the prestigious New York Times fellowship and waiting to hear back from 74 other daily newspapers, Rory was all set to spend the summer on a rollercoaster tour of the U.S. with Lorelai, until a last minute job offer from an "online magazine" (#2007) cuts their plans short.  Read more...

Stephen Colbert makes his own musical about Trump vs. 'Hamilton'

You've probably heard of the feud between Hamilton and Burr – but have you heard of the feud between Hamilton and Trump?

After the cast respectfully made a speech to Mike Pence when he attended the Broadway show, Trump fired off a bunch of tweets demanding the cast apologize to the VP-elect.

Trump also called the show overrated, which Stephen Colbert argues might be the most offensive thing the president-elect has said yet.

So, the talk show host naturally put on an orange wig and a three-cornered hat and did his best attempt at a rap to the tune of "Alexander Hamilton."

No one messes with Hamilton. Read more...

Trump supporters are pissed he won't pursue charges against Hillary Clinton

After months of rallies that included "lock her up!" chants and a threat to put her in jail, President-elect Donald Trump now says he won't pursue charges against Hillary Clinton and supporters are revolting over it.

The announcement came this morning from Trump aide Kellyanne Conway who, appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe, confirmed Trump wouldn't pursue charges against Clinton for the email server scandal.

"I think Hillary Clinton still has to face the fact that a majority of Americans don't find her to be honest or trustworthy. But if Donald Trump can help her heal, then perhaps that's a good thing," Conway said. Read more...

Who are the 41 lucky people Trump follows on Twitter?

We know Donald Trump tweets a lot. Pretty much constantly (he's at 34,000 tweets and counting). About everything. But what does Twitter look like from within the @realDonaldTrump account?

Trump should be too busy picking his future Cabinet members to have time to be mindlessly scrolling through his Twitter feed. But if he were, he wouldn't be pulling from too many sources since Trump's official account only follows 41 people.

Looking at presidents before Trump, Barack Obama follows hundreds of thousands after eight years in office. Bill Clinton only follows 26. George W. Bush hasn't been on Twitter since 2010. But his dad George H.W. Bush is more active, however he only has a selective 19 follows. Read more...

Weed Wednesday, green Friday: Marijuana sales spike at Thanksgiving

First you'll hit the grocery store for a turkey, or sweet potatoes, or pie. Then maybe the liquor store for a bottle of wine to bring to dinner. And then, depending on where you live, perhaps the dispensary, for an extra Thanksgiving pick-me-up—some marijuana.

The U.S. recreational cannabis market is now estimated to be worth close to $20 billion, and it's growing. California, Nevada, Massachusetts, and apparently Maine all voted this month to legalize recreational marijuana use, joining Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Washington, D.C.

The growing conversation on the subject could send even more people to local dispensaries on one of the biggest shopping days of the year, predicts Cy Scott, co-founder of the Seattle-based cannabis analytics firm Headset. Read more...

Apple is finally coming back to Black Friday

In a surprise move, Apple might just give tech-happy holiday shoppers an early gift to start the season. The company updated its homepage Tuesday with a bold declaration for its biggest fans: "Friday can't come soon enough."

You read that right. For the first time since 2014, Apple is once again participating in Black Friday. And unlike its deal two years ago, when the company simply offered iTunes gift cards with certain purchases, Apple is teasing a discount on hardware. The homepage image displays a shiny new Apple Watch.

Details are sparse, however. The only thing we know boils down to two sentences: "Our one-day shopping event will be here before you know it. Come back this Friday to check everyone off your list." Read more...

A 3-year-old British girl renamed all the 'Overwatch' heroes

Kids say the darnedest things, don't they?

YouTuber noniicat credits the voice behind this video to a 3-year-old British girl, who renamed all the heroes in Blizzard's Overwatch after looking at each hero page on the game's website. Which one is your favorite?

While the video's unseen star doesn't get any of the hero names right, she somehow does correctly identify Genji and Hanzo — Dragon and Dragon 2 — as brothers.

Make sure you watch this one with the captions turned on. It's delightful.

Boys' childhoods are ruined by discovery of Thanksgiving turkey's fate

Growing up is devastating.

Redditor ryancav shared two pictures of his adorable little boys having what could be the most conflicted day of their blossoming lives.

In the first photo, the boys pose joyfully for the camera — holding a book titled "Terry the Turkey" and holding a stuffed animal Terry.

In a moment, their lives are changed forever.

The second image, displayed directly below the first, shows the boys looking into the oven and presumably seeing a turkey being cooked. Putting two and two together, the once joyful kids are totally disillusioned over Terry the Turkey's fate. Read more...

How I’ve learned to live with an invisible illness

LONDON — To anyone else, it was just an ordinary day. But to me, it felt like the end of the world. Or my world, at least.

There I sat — 16 years old and full of hope — in the neurologist’s office, waiting to get the results of months of tests and scans. What was this thing inside me that had caused me to lose consciousness at the kitchen table and fall to the floor one night in December — the night I had my first ever seizure?

I have no memory of the events that happened that night, but I later found out that when I opened my eyes in the ambulance I didn’t know my own name, and I didn’t recognise my own mother whose face was anxiously hovering above mine. Read more...

This 5-second video will crash your iPhone

Reddit users uncovered a bug in Apple's iOS software Tuesday that causes iPhones to freeze after playing a short, corrupted MP4 file.

The devices crash after about 10 seconds when viewing the video via the default player in iMessage. So, don't text it to your friends (unless you're a jerk).

The problem reportedly only occurs when the video is sent as a link rather transferred as a file, although one Reddit commenter on /r/Apple reported that he received the video as a file on WhatsApp and it also caused his phone to crash.

Mashable tested out the video that causes the bug, and it did indeed crash an iPhone 6S running iOS 10.1.1 when it was sent as a link via iMessage. Read more...

Being sexist can be bad for a man's psychological health, too

Memo to president-elect Donald J. Trump: men who style themselves as playboys and enjoy wielding power over women may be putting their own mental health at risk, according to a new study.

The large-scale analysis published this week in the Journal of Counseling Psychology links those character traits with poor mental health and an inability to seek psychological help.

The study's authors suspect men who engage in that kind of sexism, which Trump boasted of doing during the campaign, may ultimately deprive themselves of meaningful connections and relationships, which can lead to loneliness and depression. Read more...

Discrimination runs rampant throughout the gig economy, study finds

Researchers are finding racial and gender disparities in just about every corner of the on-demand labor market. A new study showed black people received more negative reviews than white workers on online labor marketplaces TaskRabbit and Fiverr and that people who used the services to hire female workers were less likely to leave any feedback at all.

The findings from the academic study, expected to be published in February, follow similar research showing that drivers with Uber and Lyft and Airbnb hosts were discriminating against customers with black-sounding names. TaskRabbit was previously the subject of another study, which showed that workers were less likely to take jobs in low-income neighborhoods. Read more...

Relationship experts weigh in on who Rory Gilmore should date

Ever since Gilmore Girls premiered — 16 long, coffee-infused years ago — fans have been locked in a seemingly eternal debate: which of Rory's boyfriends should she end up with?

Sure, there were a few disposable Tristans and Martys along the way, but it all comes down to three enduring camps: Team Dean (Jared Padalecki), Team Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) and Team Logan (Matt Czuchry).

Netflix's long-awaited revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, may definitively answer that question once and for all, but in the meantime, Mashable attempted to solve this puzzle with cold, hard stats.

We consulted relationship experts from dating sites Match.com and PlentyOfFish.com to see whether there were any indicators that could signal which of Rory's fellas might be her perfect partner.  Read more...

As America reels from perhaps its most divisive election in recent memory, a new ad campaign seeks to remind everyone that patriotism and respect for our country's diversity are two sides of the same coin.

The ads feature members of often-oppressed minority groups in patriotic settings. For instance, a gay military couple embraces in a train station, a transgender cheerleader poses in red, white and blue gear and a Sikh man prays in a gurdwara while wearing a star-spangled turban.

Dozens of experts in cybersecurity, defense, elections and authoritarian regimes have signed an open letter calling on members of Congress to investigate reports of hacking by foreign powers in an effort to influence the outcome of the U.S. election. The letter called for a particular focus on Russia's involvement.
