Twitter made a big deal out of SXSW for this first time since launching here

South by Southwest Interactive's claim to fame includes being the place where companies like Meerkat, Foursquare and Twitter have gotten their start.

Unfortunately for SXSW, most of those companies have struggled. Meerkat's gone. Foursquare? Viewed as dead, but is in fact alive and embraced a new data business. And while Twitter is mentioned every day on national television, essentially leading our news cycle, it continues to have a tough time on the stock market and finding new users.

But Twitter's trying to make a comeback— at the place it first rose to prominence, no less. This year, Twitter organized its first consumer push since launching at SXSW in 2007. They've always been here, but for the first time, Twitter had a house on Rainey Street (alongside Pinterest, Intel and CNN).  Read more...

Please send me to Saturn's 'Death Star moon' so that I may climb its mountains

Anyone up for some interplanetary mountaineering?

New close-up photos of Saturn's "Death Star moon" Mimas show the world's untouched, craggy cliffs and craters calling out for exploration.

Just imagine strapping on your hiking boots and bouncing across the tree-free, low-gravity landscape, checking out the alien moon's best views from above its pockmarked surface.

The vantage point would also be unbelievable for another reason: If you were to look out at the horizon from Mimas' surface, Saturn itself would be looming in the distance. Read more...

Author tweets about whitewashed book cover, and sparks discussion on representation

The saying may go, "don't judge a book by it's cover," but if we're being real, book covers are incredibly important—and when they don't accurately reflect the characters, that's a big problem.

Nnedi Okorafor's The Shadow Speaker was published 10 years ago, yet her viral tweet Tuesday about her experience getting it out to the world has prompted online discourse about whitewashing in books both from readers and illustrators.

As a black woman writing a black female main character in a scifi novel, seeing my character whitewashed on the cover felt-like-erasure: pic.twitter.com/h5Nlhp8DHe

Digital wall aims to protest Trump with 1,926 miles of immigrant art

A border wall separating the U.S. and Mexico may be hostile and uninviting, but artist Maddy Kramer is turning that idea on its head, reclaiming it to celebrate immigrants and their creative contributions.

"Walls aren't meant to divide us," she says. "Walls are meant for art."

Kramer is using that philosophy with with a new online art project called The Most Beautiful Wall, which protests President Donald Trump's stances on immigration. 10 gifts to give Ruth Bader Ginsburg on her 84th birthday

It's Ruth Bader Ginsburg's birthday today, and there's no better way to celebrate her than with showering her with theoretical gifts she'll never receive.

Ginsburg, the internet hero — sorry "long-serving Supreme Court justice" — is 84 years old today. We're sure she's actually celebrating with family and friends, but we'd still like to offer her these hypothetical gifts as a token of our unrequited love.

Ginsburg has been many things throughout her life — a professor, a lawyer, a judge and a feminist. She's also been the source of so many delightful GIFS for useless millennials like ourselves, easily her most important contribution to the American people.  Read more...

The history of 'Mario Kart 64' world records, glitches and all

Mario Kart 64 is an interesting game to speedrun considering the game is already about trying to get through each course as quickly as possible. But Mario Kart 64 has a number of glitches and exploits that make it one of the most technical and interesting games to speedrun in the entire series, as YouTuber Summoning Salt explains in his look back through its history.

The game has been out for over 20 years but the speedrunning community is still whittling down its world record time thanks to newly discovered glitches and seemingly limitless room for route optimizations. Summoning Salt goes through some of the big names in the community and how the run evolved from individual track times to beating the game — every cup and course — in one straight shot. Read more...

Turns out the 'Game of Thrones' writers are just as evil IRL as they are on the show

Everyone knows that the hand-slap game is the literal worst, but it's probably even more inadvisable when you're playing against a gigantic dude who posts videos like this one:

A post shared by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies) on

And yet, that's exactly what Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff did when hanging out with Jason Momoa a few years ago, because, Benioff said, "it seemed like a really good idea at the time."

Benioff and his fellow Game of Thrones executive producer Dan Weiss told the tale at South By Southwest, where they appeared on a panel moderated by stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams — who got their showrunners to admit all kinds of incriminating information, including that Season 8 will only be six episodes long, and that Ed Sheeran will be guest-starring in Season 7. On March 14, Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) lived what she thought was her dream: She woke up as a white man and watched in awe as the world appeared to bend to her will. The idea came from Kaling herself and made for one of the show's most compelling episodes to date.

"[The writers and] l agreed that it would be entertaining to see Mindy Lahiri, who has the entitlement of a white man, actually wake up as one," Lang Fisher, who wrote the episode, said in an email to Mashable. How modern witches are gathering online to stop Trump

Binding politicians, hexing fascists, looking out for humanity and causing trouble: All in a day's work for modern, politically-organized witches.

Witches and the witch-curious caught global attention after announcing they would come together online to cast "a spell to bind U.S. President Donald Trump and all those who abet him" last month. (Though that hasn't stopped his flurry of controversial executive orders that have rocked the globe.)

Still, for these internet-savvy witches, one little spell designed to stop someone from doing harm is just the beginning of their plans for political change. Anyone who watched The Craft in the '90s will be familiar with the concept of a binding spell — You probably attempted one in high school after trying to make a friend levitate with light as a feather, stiff as a board. Ideally, the spell to bind Trump would have caused a magically-influenced change of heart and cosmic protection for the downtrodden — and the planet itself.  Read more...

This creepy Facebook stalking app was a hoax—but it should still scare the hell out of you

Earlier this week, sketchy-looking app  Facezam caught the internet's attention, and whipped up some controversy. It was all just a hoax engineered by a marketing company looking to score some viral gold. But that doesn't mean you still shouldn't be watching this story.

The app was touted as "Shazam for faces," with its "makers" claiming it'd let users upload photos of strangers, then, leverage Facebook's repository of profile pictures to identify the people in those photos.

Facezam raised red flags immediately. The scant marketing materials made it even worse. Welp, humanity had a good run: Humpback whales organize into mysterious 'super-groups'

Huge groups of humpback whales have been seen gathering in the Southern Hemisphere, and it's leaving scientists and people on the internet a little confused.

The groups range in size from 20 to 200 individuals, and, according to the study, the large gatherings appear to be associated with feeding behavior.

River receives the same rights as a human in 'world first' settlement

Yes, mobile VR is possible without strapping a smartphone to your face

But if you look at the reported sales numbers for mobile headsets like the Samsung Gear VR over the past year, you might think people prefer them.

Um, I don't think so.

Although hard numbers are difficult to come by, in my own experience, the most dedicated VR users in the growing community tend to use high-end headsets like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Court settles debate that’s divided grammar nerds for decades

Ah, the Oxford comma. Journalists often fight over it, academics love it and a lot of people don't care about or even know what it is. But this singular bit of punctuation is actually super important.

Just ask a couple dairy drivers in Maine who recently won a labor case and overtime pay — all because of the state's failure to slip in that crucial piece of punctuation into its labor policy guidelines.

If you don't already know, the Oxford comma is the last one in a series, such as in the sentence: "I like to run, skip, and jump."  Take out that Oxford comma and the sentence reads like this: "I like to run, skip and jump." Sometimes, the lack of a comma can leave ambiguity in the sentence. Read more...

Stephen Colbert is an expert at pulling a Rachel Maddow preamble

This is what happens when you bury the lede.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow is still being mocked for what many found to be an infuriatingly-long, 22 minute preamble in the lead up to revealing Trump's 2005 tax returns on Tuesday.

Naturally, Stephen Colbert had to try his own hand at "Maddow-ing" as it shall now be known.

He hilariously introduced a time-tested joke during The Late Show on Wednesday.

The punch line? It's right after this commercial break. Read more...

This is what you get when a member of The Shins makes a photo app

The Shins frontman James Mercer didn't set out to make an app. A heavy Instagram user, he simply wanted something to make a quick photo collage. But not the kind that just plops a few photos into a grid. You know, an actual collage, like the kind you made in elementary school.

But after hunting through the App Store, he was surprised that he couldn't find one. So he decided to make his own.

"It was just that moment of wanting something that didn't exist," says Mercer.

That was the genesis for Pasted, Mercer's whacky collage app that's due out next month (and just so happens to coincide with The Shins first album and tour in five years). Read more...

Ikea India's parental leave policy leaves most U.S. companies in the dust

Ikea India just made its already great maternity leave policy even better.

Just last week, it gave new mothers six months off work for their first two children, which is double the previous three-month paid leave period.

Stopping climate change is now the only way to save the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is in serious danger, and stopping global warming could be the only way to save it.

In 2016, a global coral bleaching event devastated the reef, especially in its pristine northern reaches where the effect was deemed "catastrophic."

Now, as the reef faces yet another bleaching event in 2017, a new report has found only one way to save the natural wonder: Fight climate change.

Published in Nature, the research assessed the scope and severity of bleaching on the 2,300 kilometres wide (1,429 miles) reef in 2016, compared with past events in 1998 and 2002.  Read more...

Mr. Bean gets recut as a scary villain but still ends up being hilarious

Ah, how could we ever forget Mr. Bean?

Rowan Atkinson's beloved character is famed for saying very little, but that's just to accentuate the his brilliant physical comedy.

But, did you ever think there might just be a horror-movie style killer lurking behind behind that tweedy innocence and penchant for odd facial expressions?

Well, you can certainly imagine it in this trailer by YouTuber John Loberger. He recut the 1997 classic Bean, and in it, Mr. Bean is morphed into a crazed villain for an imaginary film called Mean Bean.

Somehow, it still ends up being hilarious.

Dear Twitter: Please verify me. Love, Julian Assange.

Fine, whatever. Julian Assange didn't want to be verified anyway.

He does, however, seem a little p*ssed at Twitter. Calling himself a "deplorable," the WikiLeaks founder tweeted Thursday that the social media platform has a "binary class system with proximity to power represented by 'blue tick' insignia."

Twitter typically verifies celebrities and accounts "determined to be of public interest" with a tick. The process used to be invite-only, but anyone, including controversial Australians apparently, has been able to apply online since mid-2016. Read more...

China's largest bike-sharing company has a solution for people vandalizing its bikes

For all the buzz that the bike-sharing concept gets, the ill-treatment of these bikes gets just as much attention.

Because people are terrible.

China's Ofo, which has become the first bike-sharing start-up to raise over $1 billion in funding, bears a huge brunt of that burden.

Thousands of its bikes have been thrown in piles, found in rivers or locked up behind fences; some by mean-spirited vandals, others by people meaning to hog the bikes for themselves. You're supposed to ride a bike and leave it by the street corner for the next person, but some bring the bikes into their compounds, intending to keep it as a private ride. Read more...

Bird staring at itself in this window is not having an existential crisis

No, this bird isn't having an existential crisis, despite appearances.

A bird in Queensland, Australia was photographed staring at itself in the window by journalist Nick Wiggins, with a sign above it.

"I'm a bush stone curlew. I'm fine. I just like to stare at myself in the window," the sign reads, penned by "Caitlin from Wildcare Australia."

Of course, Twitter was happy to jump in with a collective "same."

Adorable social media robot dog looks like Zuckerberg's pup, natch

What if Mark Zuckerberg's Internet-famous Puli, Beast, could fit in the palm of your hand and only bark or wag his adorable little tail when you get a Facebook like?

That's not a Facebook founder fever dream, it's the reality of a new Kickstarter project for the world's only social media robot dog: Soshee (short for "social").

Designed by animatronic master John Nolan, whose work has appeared in Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean, Soshee is a 4.5-inch tall, 10 ounce, palm-sized robot that can stand or sit, turn its head, bark, wag its tiny tail and even walk a few steps.

Soshee reps told us the choice of the Puli breed, which is distinguished by its long, thick locks, was purely coincidental. Though animated, the robo-pup can't jump in the air like Zuckerberg's Beast. Soshee inventor Jason Buzi  laughed at the notion and told us "maybe version two. That's very technically difficult." How to play your Nintendo Switch on a TV without the dock

Some Nintendo Switch owners have reported that their consoles received scratches from the dock that allows the Switch to be played on TVs. It's unclear how widespread a problem this is — Nintendo seems doubtful — but, luckily, there's a way to play in docked mode without actually putting the console in the dock at all.

YouTuber Switch It Up explains that with a USB-C extension cable, you can plug the Switch through to the dock from a distance by putting the female end into the dock connection (and pressing the spring-loaded button down) and the male end into the bottom of the Switch. This will bring power to the Switch and send the Switch's display to the TV — just make sure the HDMI and power cables are plugged into the back of the dock. Read more...

Samsung's fancy Galaxy Tab S3 costs just as much as an iPad Pro, but it comes with the S-Pen

Productivity tablet wars, begun they have.

When Samsung unveiled its new 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S3 tablet last month, it was clear Samsung designed it to take on Apple's 9.7-inch iPad Pro, a tablet that can transform into a powerful productivity device with the addition of a Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil. What wasn't clear, though, was how aggressive Samsung would be in the pro-tablet battle.

On Thursday, Samsung announced pricing (and availability) that puts Apple on notice.

Starting at $599 for a 32 GB model (Wi-Fi-only) with expandable memory up to 256 GB, the Tab S3 sounds, at least, competitive. Apple's 9.7-inch Apple iPad Pro also starts at $599 for a 32 GB Wi-Fi-only model. However, Samsung's price includes the S-Pen. Apple charges an additional $99 for its Apple Pencil. In addition, it will cost you another $100 for the 128 GB iPad Pro model. Tab S3 owners can upgrade the memory of their devices on their own; a 128 GB micro SD card costs as little as $17. Eddie Redmayne is a claymation caveman in the first 'Early Man' teaser trailer

Eddie Redmayne is out to find some not-so-fantastic beasts in the first teaser trailer for Early Man, the new claymation feature from Wallace and Gromit studio Aardman Animations.

The Oscar winner voices Dug, a courageous caveman who must unite his tribe to fight the mighty Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston).

He seems to have his work cut out for him, though, considering they're barely able to stand up to a rabbit in the first promo. Cue the sad trombone.

Early Man arrives Jan. 26, 2018 in the UK, but sadly does not have a U.S. release date yet.  Read more...

Obama can't even go on vacation without starting a conspiracy theory

Obama isn't president anymore, but that hasn't stopped his vacations from being criticized.

The former POTUS visited Hawaii – the place he was born – this week to have some fun in the sun, golf a bit and take a few meetings. It seems like a normal, innocent trip, right? Or DOES it?

As you've probably heard by now, on Wednesday, Trump's second travel ban was blocked several hours before it was set to go into effect... by none other than a federal judge in Hawaii* GASP *

~ Let the conspiracy theories flyyyyy. ~

Naturally, following the ban, people began calling the timing of Obama's trip to Hawaii into question and wondered whether he went there with the sole purpose of sabotaging Trump's new travel ban. While some were undoubtedly joking, in this day and age it's a very fine line between ironic conspiracy-theory mongering and sincere conspiracy-theory mongering. Read more...

Everyone's mocking the animations in the new 'Mass Effect'

The Mass Effect series, though at times controversial, has been great. We've loved it. We love loving aliens (and other species) in it. What we don't love are these animations.

As indie developer Nathan Ranney pointed out on Twitter, the facial animations are of particular note.

'Beauty and the Beast' review: So, what do those extra 45 minutes get you?

Say what you will about Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast, but you can't say it doesn't at least try to give you something new. To the contrary, it runs a whopping 45 minutes longer than the 1991 animated version.

Whether those 45 minutes add anything worth having, though, is a different question.

This Beauty and the Beast announces itself as an updated version of the tale right away, opening on the (human) prince's beautification ritual ahead of a ball. This one isn't afraid of shimmery blue eyeliner or a dusting of rouge, and his servants are almost as dolled up as he is. Presumably this is meant to remind us that outer vs. inner beauty is one of the story's big themes. Read more...

Donald Trump is killing Meals on Wheels and it's a serious problem

Put impaired veterans, elderly shut-ins and those who cannot leave their homes on the long list of American's that the president doesn't seem to want to support.

President Trump is — you guessed it — coming under fire again for a newly proposed budget that would completely eliminate federal funding for the Meals on Wheels program. That's a problem.

Meals on Wheels provides food to the elderly, poor, disabled, veterans and others who often cannot leave their homes or prepare their own meals. Beyond providing nutritious food for the seniors, the service also supplies those that may lack social interactions with a friendly visit from a volunteer and a safety check to ensure they are okay. Drone footage of desert 'super bloom' will make your frigid Thursday

Abundant showers mean brilliant flowers for a California desert.

Canyons, sands and badlands are now speckled with yellows, purples and pinks inside the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

After years of severe drought, California experienced one of its wettest winters on record. Those rains have fueled a once-in-a-decade wildflower "super bloom" in the park seen in drone footage captured on a sunny day earlier this week.

A New York Times video also captures the super bloom in 360 degrees at the park, which is located about 90 miles east of San Diego and sits inside the Colorado Desert. Read more...

Man downs a pint of Guinness in 15 seconds...while standing on his head

It's almost St. Patrick's Day, which means it's time to celebrate and have your once-a-year pint of sickeningly dark beer.

If you're gearing up to get absolutely wasted this St. Paddy's Day, watch this MVP knock back a pint of Guinness in about 15 seconds, all while standing on his head.

His form is impressive and we're confident that he could surely drink us all under the table.

We don't recommend trying this at home, but if you're down to partake in this "St. Patrick's Day Challenge" anyway, we suggest doing it on your first beer, not your last.  Read more...

This eye-opening fan theory will challenge everything you know about Pixar's 'Cars'

It seems like we go through this every month, but forget everything you think you know about the Cars series because the game has been forever changed.

YouTubers The Film Theorists, who spend most of their time completely obliterating any innocent convictions you have about your favorite childhood movies, have come up with a brand new lens through which to watch the Pixar films. This theory focuses specifically on Cars but also touches on  some of the messed up implications that this theory has on other Pixar films.

This is just going to keep happening until Pixar finally comes up with a canon of their own. But until then, I look forward to the next Pixar theory that ruins my childhood. And if I had to guess, it's probably going to be that all the toys in Toy Story were serial killers in their past lives and being toys is their Hell or something. Read more...

The Chinese government has has enough of your recipes and decor photos

China added another brick to the Great Firewall by blocking access to social media site Pinterest, making it harder for citizens to share recipes, memes, and whatever else Pinterest is used for.

TechCrunch reports that the site's users in China are now out of luck as censorship tool GreatFire has noted the site has been blocked for a week. There are plenty of clones available, though, for people to flock too.

Still, this is significant mostly because Pinterest lasted so long without being blocked by the Chinese government, which is notorious for high levels of internet censorship.  Read more...

Man orders a 'just the cheese' burger and it's even sadder looking than it sounds

Choice is a fickle thing. Too many options, too much freedom, infinite possibilities— humans sometimes make poor decisions just because they can.

Yes, yes there is: no onion, no ketchup, no mustard, no pickles, no bun, no beef patty. Just the cheese.

WhatsApp will once again let you update your Status like it's 2002

WhatsApp users have spoken, and their message is clear: They still want to update their Status via text just like the good ol' days of away messages on AOL Instant Messenger.

Last month, the Facebook-owned chat app introduced a new way for its billion-plus users to share updates with their contacts in the form of yet another Snapchat clone. The new Status feature is just like Snapchat and Instagram Stories, which are well-loved — but it came at the expense of WhatsApp's old-school Status tool, which allowed users to display a simple text message.

But the old school Status is already making a comeback. Users running the latest Android beta version of WhatsApp reported the feature has reappeared, giving them the option to update their contacts via text or video Status.   Read more...

Trump trusts the 'NYT', but don't worry, he still hates them

Depending on which side of the bed he wakes up on, Donald Trump tends to either love or hate the "failing" New York Times.

Thursday night marked a new step in their relationship: Trusted news source.

In an interview on Fox News, Trump credited the newspaper with having provided the reporting on which he based the claim that Barack Obama had been spying on him.

Carlson pushed Trump on why he decided to tweet out the accusation based on just the Times and a report by Brett Baier, which sent Trump through a loop trying to explain why he would suddenly trust the paper.

iPhone photography is about to help these adorable animals get adopted

If you're a pet owner, there's a high chance that your phone is flooded with pictures of your pet. And that's completely understandable. How can you resist that adorable face? Answer: You can't.

That's also the reason why pictures play a huge role in pet adoption.

“Photography is critical in appealing to human emotion. People connect with pets through pictures," Cathy Bissell, CEO of Bissell Pet Foundation, told us. "Every picture tells a story to the viewer and often it is the face of a pet that motivates someone to adopt."

This is why the Bissell Pet Foundation has partnered with photographer Pei Ketron, who specializes in iPhone photography, to capture some of Berkeley Humane Society's fluffy friends at their cutest prior to the Empty the Shelters adoption event, happening in various locations across Northern California on March 18. We've had our fun, now let's leave BBC Dad and his family alone

It's been almost one week since "BBC Dad" and his adorable kids came crashing into our lives in a hilarious BBC interview blunder. But, after what feels like an eternity of op-eds, memes, parodies and fan art, it's now high time we left this family alone once and for all.

Yes, it was funny. We all laughed. Now, let's move on. Seriously.

It's safe to say the internet and media organisations (including us) made the most of that moment where Robert Kelly's children, Marion and James, burst into what was intended to be a very serious interview on the impeachment of South Korea's president on Thursday. Almost immediately after, our Twitter feeds were awash with meme after hilarious meme. Social media feeds were dominated with BBC Dad and people just couldn't get enough. Read more...

Looks like 'Zelda: Breath of the Wild' has a heartwarming tribute to Iwata

During the development of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata passed away, but it looks like his legacy is forever immortalized in the lands of Hyrule.

A character in Breath of the Wild named Botrick has an uncanny resemblance to Iwata, who passed away in 2015, and leads Link to an area called Satori Mountain, which has a name similar to Iwata's. Around Satori Mountain are several possible homages to Iwata including an apple orchard, an abandoned campsite and a legendary animal called the Lord of the Mountain, also known by the name Satori.

The unconfirmed tribute is subtle but powerful and shows the impact Iwata had on Nintendo as well as the respect Iwata earned from the company's developers.  Read more...

BOOM: These nuclear bomb test videos will scare the sh*t out of you

If you love military or scientific history and don't live in fear of a nuclear holocaust, you can now watch dozens of newly declassified films of U.S. nuclear bomb tests on YouTube.

The videos show over 200 atmospheric nuclear tests the U.S. conducted over about a 50 year period, from 1945 to 1992. Since the military shot multiple angles of these tests, approximately 10,000 films of the explosions exist.

That's where Greg Spriggs, of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California, comes in. Spriggs is heading up the effort to locate, scan and analyze all these films. So far, the project has collected about two-thirds of the films but only scanned 400 to 500. And, this week, a few dozen films were uploaded by the lab to YouTubeRead more...

Antarctica has way more penguins than scientists thought, which is great, because penguins

Good news! Millions more Adélie penguins may be marching across Antarctica than earlier counts suggested.

Nearly six million of the tuxedoed penguins may live in East Antarctica, more than double the previous count of 2.3 million birds, scientists said on Thursday.

The new data is exciting—more penguins!!! However, there are some concerns about the population information from a conservation standpoint, according to the team of Australian, French and Japanese researchers working on the penguin count.

A higher number of penguins suggests that more flightless birds are interacting with humans than previously thought, meaning researchers might need to be more vigilant about protecting breeding grounds. More penguins also means more demand for their prey, krill and fish.  Read more...

Not even the Pentagon is safe from March Madness

No one is safe from the temptation of streaming March Madness at work — not even the Pentagon, apparently.

The United States Department of Defense — yes, the actual DoD — reportedly sent a memo to employees ahead of Thursday's NCAA Tournament tip-off warning them not to stream games from the office.

The notice reads like something you might find at your regular old everyday job — but the juxtaposition between, on the one hand, slacking off at work by watching college hoops and, on the other, working as part of America's national security apparatus definitely lends this a surreal tenor.  Read more...

Chelsea Clinton is writing a children's book, and its title is just perfect

Here's how to check which of your apps Apple's about to brick

It now seems more likely than ever that the next version of iOS will kill hundreds of thousands of apps.

The company's latest iOS beta comes with fresh warnings that outdated apps "will not work with future versions of iOS" — this time in a dedicated settings menu.

Buried in the latest public beta for iOS 10.3 is a new settings menu called "app compatibility" that specifically lists any outdated apps you may have installed. It warns (yet again) these apps will not be compatible with future versions of iOS.

But the new "app compatibility" menu takes the warning a step further. It shows if a newer version of the app is available and urges users that "if no update is available, contact the app developer for more information." Read more...
