Here's who we think will fly to the moon with SpaceX
From the moment that SpaceX's Elon Musk announced the company's intention to send two unnamed people in a long loop around the moon in 2018, people started speculating about who those mystery passengers might be. Musk didn't give out many clues about the individuals who contracted the company for the flight, aside from saying that they put down a hefty deposit and they know each other. However, that won't stop us from wildly speculating about who the maybe famous and definitely rich folks flying to the moon with SpaceX might be. Read more... The U.S. Department of Defense is investigating a new online scandal: a secret Facebook group where hundreds of marines shared nude photos of female service members and veterans. The secret group, "Marines United," featured hundreds of photos and, according to the Center for Investigative Reporting in conjunction with nonprofit military news site The War Horse, at least two dozen of the women have been identified, along with their rank and where they're currently stationed. The photos, according to the report, were also accompanied by lewd and offensive comments, a troubling discovery in the wake of the Marine Corps' integration of women into basic training courses. Nintendo appreciates you. It's right there in the fine print. The Switch Pro Controller — a $70 add-on for Nintendo's new console that lets you play Zelda with the form factor of an Xbox gamepad — hides a secret message. It's nothing subversive or anything like that; just a brief utterance of thanks. The message — which reads "Thx2 allgamefans!" — is printed on what looks like a circuit board just beneath the right thumbstick. The Switch Pro Controller is semi-transparent, though it still takes some effort (and a powerful light) to find the text. Read more... Everyone's in a tizzy about the upcoming "sequel" to either beloved or loathed Christmas film Love, Actually and now you can get more excited because two key characters are still together. And, now, thanks to screenwriter Emma Freud (via Buzzfeed), we know it will also include Hugh Grant and Martine McCutcheon who — SPOILER ALERT — will still be together. It was perhaps the most legendary metaphorical co-star catfight of Hollywood’s Golden Era. And it looks like Ryan Murphy is going to capture the conflict in all its spotlight-stealing, thunder-taking, glamorously bitchy glory. FX’s latest Murphy-helmed limited series, Feud: Bette and Joan, which premieres March 5, chronicles the notoriously combative off-screen relationship/rivalry/personal hatred between two bona fide movie icons of their day, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. The series takes place as they team on screen in an attempt to stage major comebacks and regain their fading celluloid glory in the ghoulish 1962 psychological horror film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Someone like boo: Adele confirms she's put a ring on it while discussing #feels
An international superstar like Adele doesn't need to confirm her marriage on the cover of a magazine. Or even on Twitter. She's perfectly fine just telling fans in person, which is exactly what she did during a concert in Brisbane, Australia. Adele was chatting to the crowd about the inspiration for "Someone Like You" (hint: it's love) when she inadvertently revealed the news of her marriage to longtime partner, Simon Konecki. "As bad a break-up can be, and as bitter and horrible and messy it can be, that feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth," she said. "And I am addicted to that feeling. Two of the NBA's shortest players face off in best jump ball ever

Cricketer imitating his opponent's face is definitely a novel strategy
Cricket is a relatively difficult sport to explain. But it's easy to understand the players penchant for insulting each other on the field. Sometimes it comes in the form of trash talk, where verbal insults are traded in a bid to intimidate the opposition. Historically, the sledging in cricket has been pretty nasty. Few things are as heretical in branding as saying “No” to the question of monetization. After all, money’s the point, right? Well, yes… and no. Obviously, adopting a just-do-awesome-stuff-and-the-money-will-follow approach is dangerous. Equally dangerous, however, is the monetize-everything-you-and-your-business-do mentality. Why? Because people hate it, especially on social media. In other words, with most brands there’s a painful disconnect between the words “social” and “social media.” That disconnect is the reason a mere 5 percent of all “branded content” accounts for 90 percent of engagement. And it’s the same underlying reason that made “World’s Worst Person Decides to Go into Marketing” one of The Onion’s most popular headlines. Read more... Nintendo's new Switch console is officially something you can buy now, and the iFixit team has already ripped its guts out. Turns out, Nintendo crammed a whole mess of things into a very tiny space. We'll eventually get a closer look at how each piece fits together and what it does, but this broad overview shows you — in general terms — how the Switch can come apart, piece by piece. Not just the Switch, either. The iFixit crew also tears into the Joy-Con Controllers and the dock that funnels Switch video to your TV. The 3-minute teardown offers an illuminating glimpse into the technology powering the Switch. It's also very chill and relaxing to watch the various bits and pieces pop out with ease. Read more... Baxter the robot is blushing. It made yet another embarrassing mistake by placing a spray paint can in the wrong bin. A moment later, the big, red bot makes the right choice, placing a bundle of wire in the wire bin. Baxter smiles at the researcher in front of it, a young woman who’s wearing a rather unattractive electroencephalography (EEG) cap. We’re witnessing a visibly symbiotic relationship between metal and flesh. That’s because Baxter, from Rethink Robotics, and the researcher are connected. On top of the steep penalty, the creators of LeagueSharp received a court-ordered ban from playing League of Legends and any other future Riot games as well as an order to hand over their LeagueSharp-affiliated websites to Riot. Billed as the follow-up protest to the Women's March on Washington after Trump's inauguration, A Day Without A Woman is a "one-day demonstration of economic solidarity" encouraging women everywhere to take the day off from work, refrain from spending money at non-women and minority-owned businesses and wear red, according to the Women's March website. Play-Doh moves one step closer to total world domination

A new discovery could pave the way for batteries that last longer—and won't explode. The breakthrough comes from a team of engineers led by John Goodenough, the co-inventor of the lithium-ion battery used to power everything from smartphones to electric cars. The research, which was published in Energy & Environmental Science in December and publicized by the University of Texas last week, suggests a future "solid-state" battery design could potentially hold up to three times more energy and charge faster than today's batteries. The solid-state battery, which is still in the early stages of development, swaps out one of the essential parts of today's lithium-ion design—liquid electrolytes—for glass components. The glass electrolytes can store more energy and are much more stable since they prevent the formation of dendrites—metallic projections that grow through liquid electrolyte layers and cause short circuits and explosions. The regulations also forced companies to put basic protections in place to make sure hackers can't waltz in and steal information such as social security numbers. Read more... The Switch isn't like other Nintendo hardware. The bulk of the console is effectively a tablet, which is a more fragile breed of hardware than the company has generally released in the past.
