Airbnb CEO will pull a Zuckerberg, travel the world

Is Airbnb's CEO running for president of the world?

Like Mark Zuckerberg, Brian Chesky will embark on a tour to meet the people who use his service. While Zuckerberg's 2017 tour was domestic, renewing rumors of his political aspirations, Chesky's will be international.

Chesky will travel to six cities over the next two weeks to meet Airbnb hosts in different parts of the world. Chesky announced the project at his first stop, which didn't exactly require going too far — a meeting with San Francisco Airbnb hosts at the company's headquarters.

Chesky will stop in London, New York, Cape Town, New Delhi, Beijing and Shanghai, an Airbnb spokesperson said. Airbnb is under a lot of pressure in New York, where lawmakers are trying to counter Airbnb's growth in the city. Meanwhile, the home-rental company is growing fast in China.  Read more...

Barack Obama got a leather jacket because he is a fashion dad now

Barack Obama does not need us anymore. Don't believe us? Look at his new outfit.

Still looking well-rested from their extended vacation, the president and Michelle were spotted leaving the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. And while Michelle looked extremely chic in black (no surprise there), Barack appears to have traded in his dad jeans for a pair of fashion dad jeans. And a dad leather jacket.

Want to feel terrible? Look at this photo, then imagine Trump securing his tie with Scotch tape. Bad!

Ed Sheeran reveals 'Love Yourself' could have been a NSFW Rihanna jam

It's not too late to do this song properly, Riri.

During a SiriusXM interview with Howard Stern, Ed Sheeran explained why he gave up the hit song "Love Yourself" to Justin Bieber. Sheeran explained that it felt like a throwaway at the time because it was never going to make it onto one of his albums. He also divulged that he had another singer in mind for the song: everyone's favorite bad gal, Rihanna.

The singer played the original, R-rated chorus for Stern, sining, "If you like the way you look that much/ Oh, baby you should go and fuck yourself."

Sheeran said at first he was "hearing Rihanna... coming in with a bit of that swag... and Rihanna could get away with saying 'you should go and fuck yourself,' in my mind anyway." Read more...

What it was like to play VR games after a concussion

This is either the worst time to get a concussion or, the curious journalist inside of me says, the best.

A week before I’m set to fly off to San Francisco for GDC, the annual Game Developers Conference, I lose my footing on a slushy mountain while hiking in NY and slam my head on a rock. I feel the world slow around me as I fall backwards, until my skull bounces off the rock I’d just slipped on and time (and pain) rushes back to me. I make it all the way down the mountain with throbbing temples, a whole lot of whiplash and a fear of rocks — a minor concussion, fortunately.

A concussion is a type of brain injury — any kind of which can be tricky. It basically means you've rattled and bruised your brain in your head enough that you either pass out, lose memory or, in a less worst case scenario, deal with a terrible, persistent headache coupled with long-lasting sensitivities to light, sound, etc. Depending on how bad a hit you suffered, symptoms can last a few hours or a few months. And there are tons of symptoms. Read more...

How to banish ads from your Instagram feed

I've got a little secret: I haven't seen ads in my Instagram feed in more more than a year.

You're probably wondering how that's even possible. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure why it works, but it does, and here's how you can (or at least try to) banish them from your Instagram feed as well.

When I first started seeing ads or "sponsored" posts in my Instagram feed, I immediately knew it was a sign of worse things to come.

What started out as a few unobtrusive ads in between posts eventually turned into what felt like a feed of just ads. Read more...

Instagram rips off yet another feature from Snapchat

Are you ready for this? Instagram just copied yet another feature from Snapchat.

Instagram updated its apps Tuesday with a new "geostickers" feature in Stories that is nearly the same as — you guessed it — Snapchat's geofilters.

Debuting first in New York City and Jakarta, Indonesia, the new stickers are tied to specific neighborhoods and landmarks within those cities and are "designed to match the vibe of the location."

Importantly, unlike Snapchat's filters, which are largely user-generated, Instagram's geostickers appear to be designed by Instagram — at least for now. It seems likely the company will eventually open up the stickers to more cities, at which point it could expand the sticker collection as well. Read more...

Android may soon beat Windows as the world's most popular OS

Windows, once the undisputed king of operating systems, is facing a new contender for the throne.

StatCounter, a web analytics company, found that Android came very close to matching Windows' market share last month. Google's mobile OS was used by 37.4 percent of people connecting to the internet in February 2017 versus 38.6 percent who used Windows. Apple's iOS came in third with 12.99 percent.

StatCounter measures OS market share in terms of internet usage, not device shipments.

"The idea of Android almost matching Windows would have been unthinkable five years ago," Aodhan Cullen, StatCounter's CEO, said in a blog post. Android's huge success in developing countries and the continued growth of the mobile and tablet market are huge contributing factors to its market share.  Read more...

IMDb introduces 'F' rating to highlight female-driven films

When is an F a badge of honor? In IMDb’s case, when that F stands for "female," not "fail."

The database has introduced a new classification to highlight films by or about women. Individual titles will be judged along three criteria: whether it was written by a woman, whether it was directed by a woman, and/or whether it "features significant women on screen in their own right," as explained by the official F Rated site

A movie only needs to meet one of those three guidelines to be rated F; those that meet all three will be awarded a “Triple F” rating.

Your iPhone's camera could one day scan a room to pick out faces

The patent, which was first spotted by AppleInsider, reportedly came to Apple as part of its 2013 acquisition of the company behind the Xbox Kinect, PrimeSense. The filing describes a system that could use computer vision to review digital images in real time in order to detect human faces and other targeted objects.

That means the iPhone's camera might someday be able to scan a room and pick out where people are instantly. Read more...

What would animals say if tech let them talk? Nothing good, probably.

When you see an orangutan play a projected video game you have some thoughts: "Animals, they're just like us!" and "How long till she's playing Halo?"

It's hard not to compare the reactions of animals interacting with digital technology to our own. We might even imagine starting a cross-species conversation, given some time and software updates. But, if we could use technology to enable animals to really talk to us, would your cat's first sentence be flattering? Probably not.

A study at the Melbourne Zoo exposed six orangutans to interactive projections using an Xbox One and its Kinect motion controller. They could choose from games like "burst," in which they touched moving dots to explode them into a circle of color, and "paint," in which they could select colors and draw. Read more...

Why these news sites aren't publishing a single article for 24 hours

What's a women-centric news site to do on a day calling for a massive strike called "A Day Without A Woman?" For some sites, the answer is obvious: shut down operations for the day. For others, it's more nuanced.

New York magazine's site The Cut isn't publishing anything starting Tuesday night through Wednesday, according to Women's Wear Daily. Instead they'll feature strike-related themes and content from their archives. Other women's sites, such as Bustle, also aren't publishing anything for 24 hours during the strike. If the CIA can hack connected devices, you must demand better privacy protection

If you own a smart device or connected TV and found yourself alarmed by Tuesday's reports of CIA hacking, you need to start asking difficult questions about the companies you'll spend money with in the future.

That's the message from cybersecurity experts Mashable spoke to on a day of explosive allegations following the latest WikiLeaks dump.

Wikileaks dumped a trove of documents on Tuesday that allegedly show a range of techniques the CIA uses to hack or get around privacy protections such as encryption.

While the CIA hasn't figured out how to crack encrypted messaging apps such as Signal and WhatsApp, according to the documents, they have figured out how to compromise phones so the in-app encryption becomes irrelevant. The CIA has also apparently figured out how to spy on people through smart TVs, and they've explored how to hack vehicle control systemsRead more...

'The Americans' may be hitting a little too close to home right now

The Americans is debuting its fifth season under uncannily timely political circumstances — the likes of which no showrunner would ever wish for.

The show about two Russian KGB agents spying on Washington while trying to maintain normal lives has always been a family drama that happens to revolve around espionage. Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) have two children as a part of their cover, a marriage that provides most of the dramatic tension.

Since the series is set in the early 1980s, viewers of a certain age will recognize plenty of real-life events that are mentioned onscreen, and — spoiler alert — we already know that by the late '80s and early ‘90s, the Berlin Wall comes down and Cold War is entering its final years. Read more...

Even White House adviser Kellyanne Conway can't help herself from indulging in those tropes, recently tossing that tasty red meat to a conservative audience by describing classic feminism as "very anti-male."

But can you blame a girl, or anyone really, for seeing the patriarchy as alive and well? After all, with Donald Trump overseeing the least diverse cabinet in decades while championing policies that could harm countless women, not to mention the fact that women make up only 19.4% of congress, it's a little odd to suggest we live in a post-sexist society. LG G6 is a beautiful phone with a supremely fun dual camera

The LG G6 is sitting pretty.

This year, smartphones are expected to become little more than big, bezel-less screens, and LG's new flagship has a head start on Samsung's Galaxy S8, which will launch in late March, and is way ahead of Apple, whose new iPhone is expected in September.

I've been using the G6 for the past several days, and it's a beautiful smartphone, quite possibly the nicest LG has ever built. It has a huge 5.7-inch, QHD+ screen with a taller-than-usual 18:9 aspect ratio and a very compact body. It's covered with a glass surface on both front and back. And it has an innovative, fun-to-use dual camera on the back that's different — in a good way — from the cameras on its competitors.  Read more...

The messed up way Hollywood taught Amy Schumer to love her body

Amy Schumer is gorgeous, obviously.

So when she talks about being "what Hollywood calls 'very fat,'" she's not just sharing a ridiculous anecdote, she's breaking down a frightening beauty standard that governs the images we consume daily.

And it seems she's giving less and less of a f*ck about railing against them.

Her new Netflix stand-up show (which premieres midnight P.T. Wednesday) is called Amy Schumer: The Leather Special, in honour of the very chic outfit she wears. And like always, body image is a key theme in her new set. Specifically the weight loss she was politely coerced into before filming Trainwreck.  Read more...

'This Is Us' just dropped a huge bombshell about Jack's death

Few shows consistently deliver on their premise as well as This Is Us. As we near the end of Season 1 and piece our shattered hearts back together after William’s death in "Memphis," this week's installment looks at what our loved ones leave us when they pass on. It’s about more than possessions, it’s about the emotional gifts we treasure long after someone is gone.

"What Now?" beautifully illustrates the huge impact William had on the family in the space of a few short months and though he’s gone, he most definitely won't be forgotten. We started sniffling when Beth found the note. But brace yourself, we’re just getting started... Read more...

How a drone helped firefighters battle a blaze in New York City

The New York Fire Department has been messing around with a new drone for months. On Monday, it finally put the gadget into action.

After a four-alarm fire broke out at a six-story building in the Bronx, the $85,000 drone was deployed high above the scene. Connected to the ground by a small cable, it relayed live images back to the ground.

"The roof started to fail and we had a lot of great radio reports but that’s only verbal, so with the drone we had good visual pictures and it really helped us make decisions to put this fire out and keep our members safe," said FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Dan Donoghue on FacebookRead more...

Tinder is testing a secret version of the app for the rich, famous and hot

Think you know everything about Tinder? Guess again.

The company is testing a secret version of its app called Tinder Select, a invitation-only service reserved for some of the app's more influential users: the really rich, really famous, really successful and, yes, the really hot.

Rather than separate app, the service, which was first reported by TechCrunch, is a section of the existing Tinder app that's activated when a user is invited to join. Sort of like an exclusive club within Tinder, users who are part of Select are matched with each other, though they continue to see matches from "normal" Tinder users as well, according to someone who has seen Select.  Read more...

But one kid's out-of-the-box thinking led him very, very far away.

Five-year-old Tyler, from Perth in Australia, went missing after playing the game on Monday. His disappearance launched something of a search party, but turns out he'd just found an incredible hiding spot.

Tyler was eventually found hiding in his mother's car, more than 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) away in a shopping centre, according to 7 News. He had been driven away by his unknowing mother, Kayla Bishop, who went off to the movies with her girlfriend while he was in the boot. Read more...

The Statue of Liberty went dark and the timing is just too perfect

America always has to do things up big, and it's no different when it comes to metaphors.

On Tuesday evening, people across New York City began tweeting that the normally well-lit Lady Liberty had gone dark.

The theories flew fast on social media, but most suggested the iconic statue went off duty early in sympathy with International Women's Day and the global strikes planned for Wednesday. And why not? She works hard all year long, for no pay.

Even the Women's March organizers tweeted their thanks.

Thank you Lady Liberty for standing with the resistance and going dark for #DayWithoutAWoman 🗽

Male high schoolers' video on why feminism is important goes viral

On International Women's Day, you should be listening to the many female voices that have been speaking out and pushing for change.

But it's also worth taking a look at a now-viral video created by the prefects of Sydney Boys High School, a single-sex school in Australia.

The video features the school's prefects talking about why feminism is important. But significantly, the words were written by the women in their lives, all of whom have shared their experiences and described why they need feminism.

The stories detail many of the challenges women face, from sexual harassment to being undervalued because of their gender, and body shaming. Read more...

It turns out that the Philippines' Manny Pacquiao will not be fighting British pro Amir Khan, after all.

The incident occurred in Jatinegara, a suburb in Jakarta, Indonesia. The bus officer confirmed that the man even owned up to what he did, according to Coconuts Jakarta.

But police don't see it that way.

An artist painted a staircase gold but authorities are predictably unimpressed

An art project to add some bling to a dingy flight of stairs in a block of public flats in Singapore has gotten the attention it wanted.

Predictably, the local authorities are unimpressed, calling it "unauthorised."

Art student Priyageetha Dia, who is studying fine arts at Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore, revealed her work of art on Facebook.

She said it took five hours for the "hushed deed," after pondering whether to do it for a month.

Priyageetha's hesitation is understandable. Singapore has severe penalties for what it considers vandalism — which could easily extend to street art as well.  Read more...

Waste not, want not: how one app is pioneering a solution to food wastage in the UK

Did you know that the restaurant industry throws away 600,000 tonnes of food in the UK every year? The rate at which perfectly edible food is shipped off to landfill sites causes untold harm to our environment, but as with most things nowadays — there’s an app that’s using tech innovation to change the food waste situation.

Every day restaurants find themselves left with huge quantities of great food — be it a switch from breakfast to lunch menus or when closing for the day. The guys behind Too Good To Go saw this as an opportunity to make a change in the way we handle waste food, and set about knocking on the doors of restaurants they thought may be willing to part with their waste for small payments.    Read more...

This innovative device dispenses life-saving medicine through breast milk

2.9 million babies die each year in their first month of life. Safely and practically administering vital medicine to infants is a global challenge — especially in certain countries where access to safe healthcare is limited. The very first hours and days of an infant’s life carry the most risk. Recognising the difficulty faced by parents and healthcare staff in administering medical care to these young ones, one company has created an innovative solution: JustMilk.

So how does it work?

JustMilk is a disposable silicone device, which is designed to administer medicine and nutrients to infants via the flow of breast milk. The device is super-thin, meaning that medicine can be administered discreetly and effectively during the breastfeeding stage. Although the device is still in its testing stage — the company hopes the device can be used "in the global fight against malnutrition, infectious diseases and other health crises."    Read more...

During an appearance on The Late Late Show, Grint spoke about the fans — including some famous ones — who've confused him with the singer.

He's not alone, at least. At the end of the clip, Sir Patrick Stewarts chips in to say people are forever confusing him with Sir Ben Kingsley. Read more...

Could your preferred heart rate actually be the key to your heart?

Lime, a new dating app, is hoping so. Their promise is to match you up with other people who are similarly obsessed with exercise — or as terminally lazy — as you are.

Created by Edward Chen and launched last month, Lime is the first dating app to use data from your iOS health app to asses your activity level. Stephen Colbert and the Grim Reaper dance it out while discussing the GOP's healthcare plan

Yesterday the Republicans finally released their new healthcare plan that will replace Obamacare and Stephen Colbert was there to rip it to shreds. The late night host mocked the plan for giving tax breaks to insurance company executives and repealing 10 percent of sales tax for indoor tanning.

Colbert also poked fun at Sean Spicer when the press secretary explained that the new plan was better than Obamacare because it was shorter in length. "When it comes to writing things down, shorter is always better," Colbert said, "That's why Moby Dick is much worse than the instruction book for your rice cooker." Read more...

SXSW Interactive is still the most valuable business weekend of the year

For the last few years, in-the-know marketers have said that SXSW has jumped the shark.

And sure, some B2B software companies are skipping out on the renowned Austin festival to focus their efforts on more niche Q1 conferences. Facebook and Snap Inc. will not be hosting their own events. Spotify—the reigning champion of SXSW—will not produce their staple Spotify House. Airbnb isn’t activating, Funny Or Die isn’t making their usual appearance, and Uber drivers aren’t even allowed to operate in Austin anymore.

But what looks like a decline in consumer-focused activations is actually a shift to business-focused work. Read more...

Kristen Stewart shaved her head and we're all just so happy for her

It seems like only yesterday that Kristen Stewart appeared in Panic Room with a terrible '90s bowl cut and — sorry, sorry, we'll stop crying. She's just come so far.

Stewart showed up to the Personal Shopper premiere in Los Angeles Tuesday night with her head shaved and dyed platinum blonde. Her stylist previewed her new 'do on Instagram hours earlier, along with some winking commentary.

Shameless dog farts incredibly loud next to his stunned owner

Dogs are good boys and girls. Everyone knows.

They are good when they decide to only roll around where there are mud puddles. They are good when they destroy the trash in search of scraps.

They are good when they emit extremely, unbelievably loud farts without so much as a blink or a warning.

Let's be clear. Not all dogs are blessed with that ability. But Billy Howard has such a wonder dog, and he decided to share those dog farts with the world via Twitter.

Could this video have been faked? Sure. A small part of us is skeptical. Read more...

Need another reason to cut CO2? Oceans will suffer, study says

Scientists have found yet another likely reason why the world should dramatically cut its greenhouse gas emissions.

Global warming could disrupt four-fifths of the world's ocean ecosystems by 2050 if emissions keep climbing, threatening the main food source — fish — of about one in seven people globally, a new study found.

As ocean temperatures rise, and as waters absorb more carbon and turn acidic, marine life will struggle to adapt and may decline or die-off, according to research published Tuesday in the journal Nature.

On a slightly brighter note, however, reducing emissions would tangibly benefit organisms by giving them more time to adapt. Plant or coral species may develop heat-resistant characteristics, while schools of fish could build migrate to cooler waters near the Earth's poles. Read more...

The next iPhone might have a new name... and it's kind of lame

We've been kicking around rumors about the next, supposedly "deluxe" iPhone for quite awhile now, so we have an idea about what we might see when Apple finally unveils it, presumably in September — an edge-to-edge OLED display, wireless charging and a new camera, to name just a few of the proposed features. But the name remains up in the air.

For lack of a more concrete name, most have settled on "iPhone 8" when referring to the next iPhone, but in keeping with previous years, iPhone 7S is a possibility. Various reports at times pegged it as the iPhone X and codename "Ferrari." Others have speculated that Apple could use the Pro moniker, like its line of MacBooks. Read more...

This is the movie about immigrants you need to see this year

When director Lena Khan started writing what would eventually become The Tiger Hunter, starring Danny Pudi, she had a very different vision.

The first script was an amalgam of stories from her father and different immigrants she'd spoken with. She partnered with Modern Family writer Sameer Gardezi, found a star and a champion in Pudi, and years later The Tiger Hunter is releasing in a world starkly different from the one in which it was conceived.

"I think that’s one of the first things is seeing this community of immigrants as human and seeing their story in a way very different from that scary picture that Donald Trump is painting right now," Khan told Mashable. "Last year I would've been happy if people's takeaway from the movie is that they fall in love with these sorts of characters and their journeys, and sort of forget for a while that they all happen to be Indian or Pakistani." Rhino killed for its horn inside French zoo; rare old African elephant killed too

Animal stories can't always be about exciting whale videos or pregnant giraffes. Sometimes, reality has to rear its ugly head. After all, iconic species like rhinos and elephants are increasingly threatened by poaching and habitat loss in the wild.

This week, poachers in Europe and Africa made two particularly notable kills in what should've been safe spaces for wildlife.

Just outside Paris, assailants broke into the wildlife park at Thoiry Zoo overnight. They shot Vince, a 4-year-old white rhinoceros, three times in the head before using a chain saw to remove its horn, Thierry Duguet, the zoo's director, told the Associated Press on Tuesday. Read more...

'The White Princess' first look: Starz's 'White Queen' sequel revisits the Wars of the Roses

You know a historical conflict had to be bloody to have inspired George R. R. Martin to write Game of Thrones.

The Wars of the Roses were a fascinating and violent period in English history, when warring factions from two royal houses fought for control of the crown — a rivalry so twisted, Martin calls it "the single biggest influence" for his A Song of Ice and Fire series.

Starz explored the first half of the conflict between the House of York and the House of Lancaster in the 2013 miniseries The White Queen, based on the novel by Philippa Gregory. A new study published by the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior and reported by the Washington Post found that people are having less sex overall than they were in the 1990s.

The study, which used data from the giant General Social Survey, found that on the whole American adults in the early 2010s had sex nine fewer times per year than they did in the 1990s. Bob Iger just became the galaxy's greatest tease.

The Disney CEO offered some footage of the upcoming Star Wars sequel, The Last Jedi, at the company's annual shareholder meeting in Denver Wednesday — and the footage apparently included a pretty major spoiler for the movie. (Look away now if you don't want to know it.)

The teaser features Luke Skywalker's first meeting with Rey — the moment where The Force Awakens ends, and The Last Jedi begins —  with Luke asking Rey "who are you?" according to a Los Angeles Times reporter at the meeting. (Most reporters, listening in on the shareholder call, were blocked from hearing the footage shown.)  Read more...

Hillary Clinton tweets an empowering message to young girls everywhere

Hillary Clinton has an unwavering belief that young women have the power to change the world.

On Wednesday afternoon, the former Democratic presidential candidate, who has inspired young girls with her messages of hope and empowerment throughout the years, was moved by the adorable feminist photo that's been circulating on Twitter.

The tweet is from the friend of a fourth grade teacher, one who clearly has some badass students determined to make a difference in her class. The friend shared a photograph of a tiny note found under a students' desk, written on a torn piece of paper in pencil. Read more...

Reminder: In tech, very few women have a seat at the table

The people in charge of the most important tech products in the world don't have much in common with many of their customers. Many are rich, American, white — and, of particular import today, male.

Take a moment to mark International Women's Day by reflecting on the dismal representation of women in the upper ranks of companies like Apple, Facebook, Intel, Microsoft and Google. Senior leadership at these companies is invariably dominated by dudes: Of these four, Apple is most gender-diverse, with 28 percent women.

At Microsoft, 17.9 percent of senior leadership is female; 24 percent at Google; 18.4 percent at Intel and 27 percent at FacebookRead more...

New coral reefs study finally gives us some good news

Marine scientists have made an early but exciting discovery about how some corals respond to stress.

Certain species of corals can activate a set of ancient, defensive genes when exposed to high water temperatures, ocean acidity or loss of oxygen, a team from Stanford University found in a new study.

This genetic response suggests these corals are particularly tolerant to changes in the ocean — a trait that could be key to their survival as the oceans heat up and turn more acidic because of human-driven climate change.

The stress-triggered genes may also serve as a warning sign for scientists that a coral bleaching event is about to happen, the researchers said in a paper published Wednesday in the journal Science Advances. Read more...

Bellyflopping gorilla interrupts NBA game and everyone acts like it's no big deal

The best part about this? All the players act like it's totally normal.

The Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards were in the fourth quarter of their Tuesday night NBA tilt when a guy in a gorilla suit bellyflopped onto the court and skidded a few feet along the hardwood before scampering back out of bounds. It makes for a fairly surreal and funny moment — take a look.

Again, pay attention to the players on the court. They hardly bat an eye! That's the focus that gets you to the pros, people.

Who's the gorilla? That's the Suns mascot. (Now, why is the Phoenix Suns' mascot a gorilla? Good question! And one that's only partially answered here.) Read more...

J.K. Rowling reminds us all of Donald Trump's remarks about women

Donald Trump is one of millions who celebrated International Women's Day on Twitter with tweets that affirmed the "critical role of women" around the world. The president, who has a predominately male administration, quickly received flack from Twitter users who met his statements with previous remarks he's made about women—and J.K. Rowling's joined in, too.

On Wednesday afternoon, the author reminded us all that the United States elected a man who once bragged about sexual assault, despite what he may say about his "tremendous respect" for women today.

'Overwatch' will ban you if you use custom games to farm XP

After Overwatch introduced the custom game browser last week allowing players to create and host custom games online, some people started to exploit the feature by inviting players to farm experience while being inactive. Blizzard is not OK with that.

Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan announced today that Blizzard would start taking punishing players who create custom games meant to farm experience as well as the players who join those games.

XP-farming games essentially let players sit in the game without needing to participate in any way after they choose a hero. Simply finishing a game awards XP (although at a slower rate than when you actually play) so players can just sit and gain levels without actually playing. Read more...

Scarlett Johansson accidentally kills a stripper in the 'Rough Night' trailer

And you thought your bachelorette bash was awkward.

In the first red-band trailer for Rough Night, Scarlett Johansson's big weekend getaway takes a shocking turn when she and her friends accidentally kill the stripper they've hired to entertain them.

Said friends are played by Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz, and their misadventures were scripted by Broad City's Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs. (Aniello also directed, and Downs — aka Trey from Broad City — shows up in a supporting role as Johansson's fiancé.)

In other words, this dark comedy should be a good time for us — even if it's a really horrifying time for them. Read more...

Who's Behind the Massive Wikileaks Dump? The CIA Would Like to Know

The CIA would really like to know how its documents ended up on Wikileaks.

As reported, Wikileaks published a massive trove of information on Tuesday, and the CIA, along with the FBI, is now investigating whether a contractor or an employee leaked the documents, according to CNN.

The 8,761 documents, which so far appear to be legitimate, reveal an alarming array of CIA hacking techniques. The material alleges that the CIA can find its way around encrypted chat apps such as Signal and WhatsApp by compromising the phones on which those apps run, and that the CIA can hack smart TVs to spy on people. The agency is even trying to figure out how to hack cars—if, again, the documents are legitimate.  Read more...
