'Pot Sasquatch' is real and it's here to get stoned and interrupt the local news
While you may have heard of Sasquatch, the large and hairy humanoid creature that walks on its hind legs, a new breed of Bigfoot has been discovered in Western Massachusetts: Pot Sasquatch. A person dressed as a ginormous nugget of weed had a great time trolling WWLP meteorologist Jennifer Pagliei during her coverage of the winter storm which plowed through the northeastern United States on Thursday. Just as Pagliei started to deliver her live update, the Pot Sasquatch creeped into the shot, surprising her when she turned around to show off the snowfall. KGI Securities, a reliable source for iPhone leaks in the past, reported Thursday that three new iPhones rumored for this fall will feature wireless charging. Apple is said to be working on over-the-air charging, which would allow a device to charge without needing to be directly connected to anything. According to a note obtained by MacRumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said wireless charging would increase the internal temperature of the phones. As a result, the forthcoming iPhone, dubbed the iPhone X by many, will have a new hardware component to protect the unit from overheating. Read more... Two 'L'-shaped observatories with lasers: How to find ripples in space and time
Two large, "L"-shaped instruments separated by 1,865 miles are eavesdropping on the most extreme events in the universe. The two Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) sites, located in Louisiana and Washington, have been tasked with picking up the faint signs sent out into the universe by black holes colliding in deep space. These collisions are so extreme that they literally warp the fabric of space and time around them, like a rock being dropped into a stream. However, the ripples — known as gravitational waves — are extremely difficult to detect. After Plank called Trump a "real asset to the country" on Tuesday, backlash from consumers online was vehement. Then it got worse for Plank. On Wednesday, Curry said he agreed with Plank — "if you remove the et." He also said he wouldn't be afraid to walk away from his major Under Armour endorsement contract if he felt he had no other moral option. On Thursday, Copeland — the first black principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre — posted her own powerful rebuttal of Plank's praise. Read more... It's ironic that men who worship female deities would harass women. But that's exactly what one Malaysian artist is fighting against through a photo series depicting Hindu Goddesses. Ruby Subramaniam, a self-taught artist, created the photo series in response to a Facebook group that was set up to threaten Hindu women with spray paint, should they be "inappropriately dressed" during Thaipusam. Thaipusam is a festival of devotion, where Hindus commemorate the occasion when the Hindu Goddess Parvati gives the Hindu God of war Murugan a spear, to vanquish an evil demon. The festival is celebrated in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and Sri Lanka on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Thai. Read more... India's leading telecom operator by user base is showering its broadband subscribers with swathes of free lifetime data. Jio's dirt cheap data offerings that has led to its swift customer acquisition has more than threatened India's other cellular service providers. Habitat loss and climate change are having dramatic impact on almost all species — estimates suggest as many as 1 in 6 species may go extinct due to global warming. Still searching for someone to be your valentine? The answer may already be staring you in the face and is probably drooling in anticipation of treats: your beloved dog. Data from BarkBox, the company that sends monthly boxes of goodies for your dog, shows that we often like our canine companions more than our partners, and we're not shy about letting them share our most intimate moments. One third of people even said they’d had sex in front of their dogs. Of the 1,000 American dog owners BarkBox surveyed, 87 percent said they were more accepting of their dog’s irritating behaviors (think snoring, snacking and making a mess) than they were of their human companions. Twenty-eight percent of those in relationships even said they’d opt to share their bed with the dog rather than their partner. Read more... According to the Kickstarter page, the project's goal is to "make art history more fun, develop a new kind of product for art history fans [and] pay tribute to one of the greatest painters of all time." Donald Trump may be an expert at tweeting, but he hasn't the faintest idea how to shake someone's hand. The latest champion to endure one of the infamously awkward, uncomfortable and visibly aggressive Trump shakes? The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzō Abe. We feel for you, man. On Friday morning Abe met with President Trump at the White House, but before the leaders parted ways ... it happened. As the two sat before the cameras, Trump lunged for the prime minister's hand, and before Abe knew what hit him, he was trapped in an absurdly lengthy palm embrace. Read more... This skywatching coincidence should make for an interesting start to the weekend for people around the world who are able to see both the comet and the eclipse. Sharing drinks is possibly the ultimate benefit of being in a relationship, or even just casually accompanying someone to dinner. Do I want to pay for an entire soda? No. Do I desperately want at least a sip of soda? Yes, very much so, unfortunately. The downsides of sharing a soda include, but are not limited to: sharing a straw (unsanitary), using two straws but they don't fit very well so the straws get sort of squished together, not being able to tell whose straw is whose, not being able to drink at the same time— all elements that could impact the quality of your romantic date at a restaurant where soda is served in paper cups and consumed through a straw. In the future, you might be able to grab your iPhone and control it from any angle. Touchable, scrollable input spots on the phone's backside could revolutionize the device, according to a new patent. Apple was recently granted the patent, which describes a super space age-sounding "quantum tunneling" material that could eliminate the need for physical buttons and bring touch control to just about any surface. The quantum tunneling material uses complicated electron exchanges to create additional touch controls. Apple's patent starts off by describing a design for an iPhone case with touch capabilities on the back (seen in the figure below), but the tech could also someday be integrated into the phone itself.
