Why do people think these 'Rogue One' characters are gay?

Warning: This article contains a few serious spoilers for the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Contrary to the opinions of a tiny group of homophobic fans, there is nothing controversial about including gay characters in the increasingly diverse Star Wars galaxy.

Author Chuck Wendig has already done so explicitly, in the Force Awakens prequel novel Aftermath. Director J.J. Abrams, asked earlier this year if he would like to see gay characters included in Star Wars movies, didn't hesitate for a second: "Of course," he said

But that doesn't mean Rogue One characters Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) and Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) constitute Star Wars' first on-screen gay couple—especially not in a series of movies that tend to focus on friendship and family, and barely hint at romance.  Read more...

Kid is understandably terrified at the mere sight of his Elf on the Shelf

Parents will do just about anything to keep their kids in line, and Elf on the Shelf seems to do a pretty good job during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The concept is pretty simple and is based off of a children's book: a scout elf is propped up inside your house to keep tabs on kids' activities during the day and reports back to Santa. So basically the elf is a straight up narc, and if you're a bad kid, Santa will know.

What makes the whole thing even creepier is that when the elf returns in the morning before everyone gets up from bed, he's positioned in a new spot. Scary, right? Read more...

"I mean it's just sitting there in the end zone," Elliott said after the game. "We support the Salvation Army — NFL, Cowboys — they're one of our biggest partners, so you know I had to show them a little bit of love." Read more...

Make your workout worth it on this exercise-powered boat

Summoning the energy to get to the gym at all is enough of a challenge, but now an Italian design firm wants to harness your workout to power a boat.

The firm, Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA) partnered with gym equipment makers, renewable energy and urban design groups, and architects to design what they are calling the "Paris Navigating Gym." It's a boat that moves down the Seine River using the energy from your workout.

The 20-meter long boat can hold up to 45 people, all of whom will help keep it moving along. With riders on specially designed bikes, human energy will be used, along with energy captured from solar panels and photovoltaic cells on the gym roof, to activate electric propellers.  Read more...

Twitter figured out why Camila Cabello quit Fifth Harmony

Twitter has it all figured out.

Early on Dec. 19, Fifth Harmony announced on Facebook that singer Camila Cabello had left the girl group.

While many of the group's fans are struggling to find answers, Twitter users have already pieced the mystery together with one important video montage.

No one would high five Camila.

Maybe, if just one person — anyone — would have met her up top, the group's situation would be different right now.

Warm ocean water is melting East Antarctica's largest glacier

Right now, a team of about 30 researchers are sailing through the turbulent waters of the Southern Ocean aboard an Australian research vessel named the "Aurora Australis," hoping to collect vital intelligence on East Antarctic glaciers.

Their work on prior missions has already revealed some unsettling results.

The information these scientists gathered during the Antarctic summer of 2014 and 2015 makes clear that glaciers and ice shelves in East Antarctica are vulnerable to some of the same forces that appear to have set into motion an irreversible melt of parts of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet in the Amundsen Sea.  Read more...

This country is waging a war against Facebook

In the latest chapter of the "fake news" saga, Facebook is now facing off against an entire country as German officials want to fine the social media platform for every fake story that makes its way to the newsfeed.

Thomas Oppermann, party chairman of the Social Democratic Party, told Der Spiegel that because Facebook hasn't gotten its act together yet despite knowing fake news and hate messages proliferated on the site, the company should be subject to a €500,000 fine ($523,320).

The threats come just as Facebook announced new tools to fight the spread of fake news, including an option for users to flag fake news and third-party fact-checking with help from the Poynter International Fact Checking NetworkRead more...

'Barry' director on race, identity and why the young Obama matters

Vikram Gandhi didn't direct the Netflix biopic Barry because he cared about Barack Obama. He made it because he cared about a kid named Barry.

Gandhi set out to discover who Barack was before he was Barack, back in 1981. The film follows a portion of Obama's life then as a student at Columbia University, and how it shaped who he would grow up to be.

"I don’t know who Barack Obama is," Gandhi told Mashable in a phone interview. "I didn’t study that. I studied who Barry was. I related with Barry. The things that he’s struggling with are things that people around me have struggled with, I’ve struggled with, and I think that I still struggle with. Barack Obama’s the president; I have no idea what that’s like, but I know what it’s like to be a confused kid, a 20-year-old kid in New York City trying to figure out where you belong." Read more...

How college football's biggest stars are changing the game by sitting out

This has to give the authoritarian oligarchs of college football a real bad feeling about what's to come. But we'll get back to that in a minute.

For now, good on Leonard Fournette. Good on Christian McCaffrey. Good on them for sizing up a corrupt system, then saying no thanks. And good on them for setting an example.

Fournette, an LSU running back, and McCaffrey, a Stanford running back, are the faces of what's suddenly become college football's newest trend. They're among the sport's biggest starts, yet they won't take the field when their respective schools play in season-ending bowl games soon.  Read more...

Now witness the beauty of the 'Death Star' moon floating above Saturn's rings

One of Saturn's most photogenic moons gets its closeup in a new photo taken by the Cassini spacecraft.

The image, released by NASA this week, was taken by the spacecraft on Oct. 23, when it was about 114,000 miles away from Saturn's moon Mimas.

The small moon, which is known as Saturn's "Death Star" moon because of its distinctive crater (not visible in the above image), can be seen floating above the planet's rings.

Although Mimas looks like it's just inches above the ring plane in this photo, it's actually 28,000 miles from the rings, NASA said.  Read more...

The Electoral College was never going to save you, despite what you wanted to believe

Talk about something often enough and the idea can become real, especially if people around you are talking about the same thing. That, in short, gives a good indication why there had been so much chatter about the possibility of the Electoral College voting against Donald Trump on Monday, even though it was never likely to happen.

Electors voted for Trump as expected, and the letdown for Clinton supporters and Trump detractors has no doubt whipped them straight back to dismal reality. But psychologists say the good news is they're not likely to feel dismal about their situation for long, despite the many blinking lights of false hope. Read more...

Turkey's internet censorship is starting to look like China's 'Great Firewall'

The Turkish government is strengthening its already tight grip on the country’s internet.

In the past, government officials have blocked Twitter, Facebook and other social networks where Turkish residents often discuss politics. These blocks have no doubt been maddening for many, but savvy internet users have been able to use virtual private networks (VPNs) to access their favorite social networks anyway.

As of Dec. 18, Turkey has officially gone after VPNs and Tor, which had allowed users to remain anonymous, according to Turkey Blocks, which tracks internet censorship in the nation. Internet users in Turkey can still use what's called a Tor bridge or customized VPNs to get around the intense censorship, but using such tools requires a degree of technical know-how that many likely don't possess. A woman's brain changes in profound ways after she gives birth, new study shows

Along with the arrival of a new human being into the world, pregnancy also seems to result in something else life-changing — a woman's brain that's differently wired.

Just what sort of 'different' is less clear, but apparently some pretty notable changes take hold after a woman gives birth, according to a study published Monday in Nature Neuroscience.

It reports that, after pregnancy, women's brains hold less gray matter in certain areas of the brain, particularly those regions dealing with things like social cognition and theory of mind, or knowing what's going on inside someone else's mind, as explained by Scientific American. Read more...

Families of Orlando victims sue Google, Facebook and Twitter

The families of three fatally shot victims — Tevin Crosby, Juan Ramon Guerrero and Javier Jorge-Reyes — filed a lawsuit against Google, Twitter and Facebook on Monday alleging the tech companies provided "material support" for the radicalization of Islamic State (ISIS)-inspired shooter Omar Mateen and his horrific act of violence, Fox News reports.

The suit, filed Monday, points the finger directly at all three tech giants, saying they "knowingly and recklessly" allowed for accounts associated with ISIS to exist and allowed the extremist group "to use its social networks as a tool for spreading extremist propaganda, raising funds, and attracting new recruits." NBA star hurls profanities at reporter in outburst caught on camera

Joyce Terhaar is executive editor of The Sacramento Bee. She published a column this weekend entitled, "DeMarcus Cousins unleashes profanities at Bee reporter in latest attempt to control the media."

The crux of the story was a confrontation between Cousins and Bee columnist Andy Furillo. To be more accurate, actually, Cousins was the one doing all the confronting. Cousins was upset about Furillo having written a column that mentioned a nightclub altercation involving Cousins and his younger brother, Jaleel. Koala's terrible day improved by a kind human with a hair brush

It's a tough life for a koala during Summer, especially if you happen upon a particularly unfriendly patch of prickly burrs.

Bruce Atkinson was outside his home in Victoria, Australia, on Saturday morning when he found a koala chilling on his back porch.

He approached it with a bowl of water, only to have it slapped away, according to his Facebook post on a community page.

But when Atkinson began gently brushing the critter's fur with a hairbrush to remove the plethora of prickly burrs stuck on it, the marsupial was won over.  Read more...

How the murder of a Russian official went massively viral on Facebook

Warning: This post contains a graphic image that some readers may find disturbing.

If you have an iconic image on your hands, forget the front page: You're posting it on Facebook.

That's exactly what the Associated Press did Monday, shortly after the assassination of Andrey G. Karlov, the Russian ambassador to Turkey. A young man shot the official to death at an art exhibit in Ankara, and the AP's Burhan Ozbilici captured the entire violent incident.

Less than two hours after the news broke, the AP's official account for images on Facebook shared a photograph of the gunman, arm raised in triumph, standing over Karlov's body. Read more...

The Turbo Man toy from 'Jingle All The Way' is becoming reality

Jingle All The Way is one of the more critically panned Christmas films to date, but it does capture the chaos of the holiday shopping season.

And let's face it: deep down, you wished your parents went to the same lengths to buy your favorite toy as Arnold Schwartzenegger did with Turbo Man.

Now you can buy the toy, thanks to a Kickstarter campaign that promises to make a replica of Turbo Man based off a 3D scan of an original prop from the 1996 film.

The toy will be a 14.5-inch (36-centimetre) fully poseable figure, costing backers US$130 each. The campaign has so far raised more than US$15,000 at the time of writing, exceeding its initial target.  Read more...

Margot Robbie posts the most perfect response to wedding rumours ever

The media's abuzz with rumours that actress Margot Robbie secretly married her long-time partner, director Tom Ackerley, on the weekend in Byron Bay, Australia.

At least, until she shut down said rumours with one swift Instagram post.

According to the Northern Star, the wedding menu consisted of pizza and a BBQ, with Coco Pops (apparently her favourite cereal) as the dessert.

Yet no one knew for sure if Robbie and Ackerley got hitched, with outlets relying on Instagram pics of guests to tell the story.

China chokes as it hits its worst air pollution levels of this year so far

Air quality in China has hit its worst of this year, with airborne pollutants exceeding 100 times the safe limit in many regions.

On Monday, the government ordered heavy industries to shut down. And traffic has been disrupted in over 23 cities that have issued red alerts — allowing cars to only drive on alternate days.

In Beijing, over 200 flights have been cancelled, and schools ordered shut.

The red alerts are expected to stay in place until Wednesday, as the country struggles with a thick layer of smog.

Greenpeace East Asia estimates about 460 million people have been affected by the air quality this year, leading to a rise in asthma and other respiratory conditions reported at hospitals. Read more...

How Karun Nair cheated death and went on to score a triple ton

They say the darkest hour is the nearest dawn. And Indian cricketer Karun Nair must know a thing or two about it.

The 25-year-old, playing only in his third test match, slammed an unbeaten triple hundred against the visiting England side on Monday in Chennai. But few know that only a few months ago he cheated death.

In July, Nair narrowly escaped death after his boat capsized in Thampa River in the southern Indian state of Kerala, Nair’s native place.

He didn’t know how to swim and had to be rescued by onlookers, PTI reported. “I was lucky to live again,” Nair said as he recalled the incident after end of day’s play. Read more...

That futuristic elevated bus is now gathering dust, and China doesn't want people discussing it

Remember that traffic-straddling elevated bus that was getting built in China?

It's only been four months since the futuristic vehicle was unveiled to the public, but it seems it's quickly become abandoned — and the government doesn't want people talking about it.

In August, the makers of the TEB-1 (Transit Elevated Bus) said that the 22 metre (72 foot) long bus can hold a large load of 300 people, allowing a 2.1 metre (6.8 foot) clearance for cars to pass under its carriage.

At just 10 percent of the cost of building a subway equivalent, the idea was widely lauded as a solution to China's congestion problems. Read more...

Angry James Corden perfectly sums up why British people hate Secret Santa

For your average grumpy and socially awkward British person, the phrase "Secret Santa" is something to be feared above all else.

Because it's just such a minefield, isn't it? There's the quandary of whether or not to go for a humorous gift and how much to spend. That's before you've even get on to the present-opening bit where everyone stands around clapping and any microscopic signs of disappointment are magnified ten-fold.

In the sketch above, which sees The Late Late Show staff exchanging their Secret Santa gifts, James Corden perfectly nails the cringe-factor. Read more...

'Great desktops' lie ahead in Apple's roadmap, Tim Cook promises

Is Apple still committed to desktop computers? Some examples, like the Mac Pro, which hasn't been updated in three years, make it hard to argue that it is.

Now, in an internal forum post to Apple employees, dug out by TechCrunch, Apple CEO Tim Cook addresses the issue, claiming Apple is still very much interested in the desktop, and that it plans to launch new desktop products in the future.

"Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we’re committed to desktops. If there’s any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that," he wrote.  Read more...

The note, visible on Apple's online store for multiple countries, promises free next day delivery for "in-stock items ordered by 2:00 p.m. on 12/23."

Apple might finally start manufacturing iPhones in India

Apple could become the latest brand to get its smartphones manufactured in India.

The Cupertino-based company is in discussion with the Indian government about the possibility of manufacturing its products in India, according to WSJ, which cites unnamed senior government officials.

The iPhone maker sent a letter to the government last month in which it outlined how it would assemble its products in India and sought financial incentives from the government, the report adds.

Assembling iPhones in India is crucial for Apple if the company wants to make its products available to the Indian market at lower price. The Indian government currently imposes heavy taxes on electronic products like smartphones imported to India to encourage local production.  Read more...

Man perfectly demonstrates the dangers of drunk table dancing

LONDON — Should you find yourself developing the sudden urge to dance on top of a table this Christmas, watch the clip below first.

Matt Kemp recently tweeted a video taken at London's Winter Wonderland, in which two men climb on a table to throw some enthusiastic shapes.

Unsurprisingly, things don't quite go according to plan.

To be fair to the guy on the left, you really can't fault his commitment. There's not many people that would get straight back up and start dancing again after a fall like that.

Luckily, the hapless shape-thrower didn't appear to have been too hurt by his experience — although Kemp was able to shed some light on why that might have been. Read more...

We've counted a total of 18 designs, and most of them are animated.

Jedi fails to be recognised as a religion

Jediism has failed to 'force' its way through the legal hurdles of the British bureaucracy system in order to be recognised as a religion.

The Temple of the Jedi Order (TOTJO), whose followers worship the mythology of Star Wars films had its charitable status application rejected.

An online community, not a religion.

The Charity Commission wrote that Jediism "lacks the necessary spiritual or non-secular element" to be registered as a religion and "does not promote moral or ethical improvement".

The Temple of the Jedi Order was an "an entirely web-based organisation and the Jedi are predominantly, if not exclusively, an online community". Read more...

Mistakenly released 'Mummy' reboot trailer is so bad it's very, very good

Fans of the '90s The Mummy might fondly remember the movie as profoundly awful, a waste of time and money and pretty boring.

But Universal has brought the Mummy back because — Universal — and last week, an IMAX trailer was seemingly accidentally released that peaked our interest way more than a plain reboot. This mistaken trailer is missing all the sound sans the actor's voice tracks.

Watch as planes explode and fire burns, to the tune of literally nothing.

Is there anything better than a bad movie with even poorer sound editing?

Of course there is. But this is pretty good, too.

Is Apple neglecting the Mac?

Apple is getting serious flak this year from diehard Mac fans for losing sight of what its "real" users want in a new machine.

Take the new MacBook Pros. Rather than update them with significantly greater performance or extraordinary battery life, Apple chose to make them thinner and lighter, swap the keyboard with shallower keys and replace all of the ports (MagSafe, SD card, HDMI, etc.) for USB-C.

Moreover, Apple has been accused of letting its desktop Macs languish. Mac fans aren't wrong to feel abandoned; the Mac Pro hasn't been updated since 2013, the iMac in over a year and the Mac Mini in over two years. Read more...

After lengthy delays to AirPods, Apple fans were finally able to purchase a set of the wireless headphones this week. Gift givers everywhere breathed a sigh of relief as the hottest (and most expensive) stocking stuffer of the year hit Apple Store shelves just in time for the holiday season.

But the cause of the delays was never disclosed. Now that AirPods are out, we could be closer to an answer. After a complete teardown of the buds, the iFixit team has a theory: it was the case's fault.

After giving the earbuds and their portable charging case a once over, the teardown began. It started with the AirPods themselves, which are filled with impeccably-packed components. This includes an IR proximity sensor, which is used to detect when it's in use, in-ear.  Read more...

Instagram Stories: Now even more like Snapchat, but with better video recording

Instagram just dropped another major update to Stories and, once again, some of the new features may look a little familiar.

The app added a stickers feature that looks a lot like Snapchat's geofilters, as well as the (decidedly un-Snapchat-like) ability to record video hands-free.

For now, there are two main types of stickers: a handful of holiday-themed illustrations (presumably, Snapchat will periodically update its selection throughout the year) and "contextual stickers" that look a lot like Snapchat's filters.

The contextual stickers allow you to add illustrated overlays that showing the current time, temperature or your location. While Snapchat has its own variant of all of these, Instagram's location stickers are not as creative as Snapchat's geofilters (though they look very similar at first glance).  Read more...

'The Walking Dead: Season 3' premiere review: It's a family affair

What is a family, really, when desiccated monsters that want to dine on your flesh account for 99 percent of the world's population?

In its first two seasons, Telltale Games The Walking Dead focused on makeshift families. The bonds that rapidly form when desperate circumstances bring a group of strangers together.

We simultaneously watched and participated as a young girl named Clementine went from wide-eyed innocent to hardened survivor. Whatever choices you made that shaped her, she emerged from the series' first 10 episodes as a capable survivor of the zombie apocalypse. Read more...

Artsy photo app Prisma gets more social

Prisma, the mobile app that turns your photos into artworks through neural-network magic, has received what its founders call the biggest update so far.

Originally focused on taking photos, applying filters to them and sharing them on other social networks, Prisma is now a social network in its own right.

The Camera part of the app is now joined by Profile and Feed tabs. While Profile is self-explanatory, the Feed offers a list of trending images, and it works a little different than other social feeds.

"A shared artwork an only be seen by people nearby. Every like spreads the post further increasing its range of appearing on people’s feed. Theoretically, a user can post a picture, get likes and watch his or her post spread and cover the whole world," Prisma explains in its press release.  Read more...

Elephant gets revenge by farting on another elephant's head

There is no revenge greater than a wet fart to the face.

At the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand there is a constant battle between elephants over a small hill. An elephant named Kabu is always pushing another named Faa Mai off the little mound, but Faa Mai knows exactly how to seek her perfect revenge.

After tumbling down the hill, Faa Mai reclaims the top spot and positions herself directly on top of Kabu's head. There she unleashes an ungodly elephant fart, forcing Kabu to endure the flatulence before finally letting her go.

Faa Mai is basically everyone's older sibling growing up.

Thundersnow with 'continuous' lightning hit Hawaii on Sunday

Thundersnow, a phenomenon that makes weather geeks everywhere rejoice, struck in an unusual location on Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, a low pressure system resulted in snowfall with "continuous thunder and lightning" over the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The summits were plastered with snow and pounded by strong winds on Sunday, according to webcam footage and social media postings.

While snowfall is not unusual on these mountains — Mauna Kea is 13,769 feet above sea level — thundersnow is rare.  Read more...

Virtual Reality is invading film festivals, never mind the skimpy storytelling

DUBAI — The robust menu of virtual reality installations offered at this month's Dubai International Film Festival — the first time the format was featured here — would’ve made it the world's largest, most celebrated VR-palooza of record just a couple of short years ago.

That distinction now lies somewhere between the expansive springtime VRLA Expo in Los Angeles and next month's Sundance Film Festival, where a dozen installations seemed like a huge deal in 2015 (this year well over 30 are coming to Park City, Utah).

7 weirdest moments from Mark Zuckerberg's new AI video

Facebook CEO and very rich man Mark Zuckerberg released a video on Tuesday that demonstrates his fancy new artificial intelligence named Jarvis that he's been working on all year.

While the AI is surely impressive, we couldn't help but get over just how weird the video is that goes along with it. It's so strange Zuckerberg even had to clarify in the comments that this is not a live demo, but a "fun summary."

Add on top that Jarvis is voiced by popular voice actor/God Morgan Freeman and the whole thing just has a weird and creepy feel to it.

Also Zuckerberg may or may not be a robot.

After much deliberations, these are the moments we thought were the weirdest: Read more...

Take a peek at the first 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' map pack, Sabotage

The first Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare map pack is coming on Jan. 31, 2017 for PlayStation 4 people — everyone else has to wait another month — and it's packed with goodies.

Longtime fans know the drill here. Four new multiplayer maps and one new Zombies adventure. The new maps span a variety of locations: Brooklyn, Venice, a training simulation, even the planet Mars. The Mars map is actually a reskinned version of the fan-favorite Afghan map from Modern Warfare 2.

Then there's the new Zombies outing, Rave in the Redwoods. Think Friday the 13th — complete with unkillable revenge monster stalking through the woods — only the summer camp in this case is the site of a Burning Man-style rave. Read more...

Mark Zuckerberg's home assistant is voiced by Morgan Freeman. Seriously.

One of the richest men in the world now has God as his personal assistant.

Well, the voice of God. Who better for the man who oversees a network of more than 1.8 billion people and has ambitions to connect the world

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed Tuesday that actor Morgan Freeman is the voice behind his home AI assistant, the project he tasked himself to complete during 2016.

Zuckerberg has said he was inspired by Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., and his AI assistant Jarvis. Conveniently enough, Downey Jr. volunteered Jarvis' fictional voice (played by actor Paul Bettany) for the AI, but Zuckerberg declined the offer. Read more...

Oculus Inception: Quill app in VR shows what simulation theory really looks like

The Oculus team frequently showcases the work of artist Goro Fujita using VR drawing app Quill. His most amazing VR work surfaced earlier this month with "Worlds In Worlds." The piece was a demonstration of how you can use Quill's "infinite canvas" to embed 3D drawings within larger 3D drawings to give the viewer a sense that they're traveling from one reality into another in terms of scale.

As amazing as that was, another user decided to test just how far Quill's canvas can be pushed, and the result is a mind-bending trip reminiscent of the layered dream worlds of Inception

The nearly three-minute video takes us into a building in which a man is watching a television that contains a duplicate of his surroundings. The Quill user manages to push the app until it hits seven levels of embedded scenes, at which point "reality" begins to become unstable and lose resolution. If you've ever heard of Nick Bostrom's simulation theory and wondered what it might look like, this VR demo in Quill suddenly makes the idea a lot easier to grasp.   Read more...

We have a good feeling about this Death Star gingerbread house

That's no MoonPie. It's a gingerbread Death Star.

Though we can't imagine anything less festive than blasting an entire planet to smithereens, a few crafty bakers have constructed a "fully operational" cookie replica of the famed Star Wars weapon.

It even has little candy canes on it! Do you guys think Grand Moff Tarkin likes candy canes?

Probably.

Anyway, we'd tell you how to make your own, but we don't have the plans. You can maybe find them in a big tower on Scarif or something.

Two cynical city dwellers try 'hygge' with disastrous results

LONDON — You could spend a lifetime trying to keep up with the latest lifestyle trends. Each time you master one, another comes along.

This year the Scandinavian trend 'hygge' invaded the UK.  It was in every article we read, every shop we entered, every party we attended. It was all around us and we had a choice: we could either embrace it, or rail against it.

So what is Hygge?

Hygge (pronounced HUE-gah) is a Danish word that describes a mood or feeling that comes from taking pleasure in making everyday moments more meaningful or beautiful. That can mean making a ritual out of taking time to enjoy a cup of tea, lighting a candle with every meal and having a cosy evening with family and friends.  Read more...

Meet the hardware hackers rebelling against Samsung

Samsung Galaxy Note7 owners are being forced to give up their phones — that doesn't mean they're all going to go quietly into the night, though.

Just because some devoted Note7 owners have been told their phones are too dangerous to own, are banned from airlines forever, and will be crippled by software updates doesn't mean they're all simply heeding the global recall. But what recourse do these (either unwaveringly brave, or incredibly reckless and stupid) phone owners have? What can they possibly do to keep Samsung from prying their precious Note7s from them?

Fight the system, and rebel... by joining a Facebook group, of course, to seek solace (and action) in these dark times. Read more...

Ubisoft's 'Assassin's Creed' strategy: Recruit your biggest fans to make it

There is no sexy origin story for the Assassin's Creed movie, to hear Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot tell it.

He speaks of bringing down customer acquisition costs and finding ways to offset the investment needs of AAA game development. It's all part of the philosophy Ubisoft Motion Pictures was founded upon when the division was established in 2011.

"It came from the fact that I saw competitors doing movies [based on] games," Guillemot told Mashable in an interview. "I saw the risk and the opportunity linked to that." Read more...

Craig Sager's final TV interview is both painful and beautiful to watch

This medication works by attacking the germs that cause them and rejuvenates sun-harmed skin. This is just implied for outside use. It ought not to be applied to broken or harmed skin.
