It's terrifyingly easy to delete all your 'Zelda: Breath of the Wild' saves

You know how you've already spent, like, 90 hours wandering around Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? How would you feel if all that progress disappeared?

It's very easy to delete all of your save data in Nintendo's latest Zelda game. Frighteningly easy. All it takes is starting a new game. You get one pop-up message — "Overwrite previous save data?" — and that's it.

So here's some friendly advice: if you want to start a fresh save in Breath of the Wild — say, for speedrunning — just create a new user profile on the console. You don't need to pay for any subscriptions or anything to play Zelda. Read more...

Unbeatable 'Street Fighter II' combos unearthed after 26 years

Street Fighter II: The World Warriors came out 26 years ago and a series of glitch-assisted combos from the game are only just now seeing the light of day.

While fighting against Claw (AKA Vega) in World Warriors, Street Fighter player and YouTuber Desk was able to rack up unstoppable combos with multiple characters by utilizing a specific wall glitch, which involves knocking Claw back from the center of the screen so that he hits the corner. As the screen moves over, there's a small delay during which he's vulnerable to hits and allows Desk to throw more combos at him and take him out without giving him a second to breathe. Read more...

Fake strongman duo pranks local morning shows and the results are glorious comedy

Let's get a slow clap for "Chop" and "Steele," folks. Because this YouTube prank is straight up brilliant.

"Chop" and "Steele" are not actually the weightlifting strongman duo they purport to be. They're really a couple of major doofuses. But that didn't stop some earnest local TV morning shows from booking the duo for fitness demonstrations.

From karate-chopping twigs (wow!) to stomping on wicker baskets (impressive!), "Chop" and "Steele" gave local news viewers all the excitement they could handle. The funniest part is watching morning show anchors try to smile and nod along as our strongmen get weirder and weirder.  Read more...

The people behind TLC's 'No Scrubs' just got a writing credit on that Ed Sheeran song stuck in your head

What do a 26-year-old redhead from England and a '90s R&B girl group from the United States have in common?

A song, apparently.

Ed Sheeran's latest inescapable chart-topper "Shape of You" just got a few new writers — and they're none other than brains behind TLC's hit "No Scrubs."

It's not clear why songwriters Kandi Burruss, Tameka Cottle, and producer Kevin Briggs were added to ASCAP's listing for the song, both Burruss and Cottle have confirmed the addition via Instagram.

People began to notice the similarities between "No Scrubs" and "Shape of You" weeks ago, sharing their realization on social media through tweets and covers.  Read more...

Why great design is the key to landing - and keeping - customers

New technologies come and go at a blistering pace.

All it takes is a single swipe of the finger for a smartphone user to end a budding relationship. Large, decades-old companies – from transportation to banking to retail – are now competing head-to-head with Silicon Valley startups.

Companies that want their brand to stay relevant longer than a fleeting social media message must prioritize customer experience – with design at the core of every interaction.

But why does design matter for the digital age?

Visually appealing, consumer-friendly interfaces are essential to making products useful – and delightful. Well-designed content is the keystone to any marketing campaign. In fact, companies that invest in design outperform their peers.  Read more...

Kellyanne Conway's tweet about Hillary's emails is coming back to haunt her

FBI investigations may come and go, but tweets? Tweets are forever.

Kellyanne Conway can surely attest to this, seeing as how one of her tweets from October 2016 — back when she was criticizing Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server — has recently come back to haunt her.

FBI Director James Comey confirmed Monday that his agency was currently investigating Russia's attempts to interfere with the 2016 election as well as any collusion with Donald Trump's campaign and Twitter users got to digging. Someone quickly unearthed a Conway tweet that lied dormant in the 140-character archives for months, just waiting to being revived and relevant again in Trump's America. Read more...

The sensational success of 'Zelda,' explained perfectly

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is good. Really good. Really really good. It's pretty much a lock for Game of the Year in many corners of the industry.

But why is it so good? Scores of reviews have pondered that question. Many of them are excellent. But this straightforward breakdown from Turbo Button on YouTube nails it. That time 'Rogue One' almost brought its villain back from the dead

Another day, another alternate ending to Rogue One

As Disney and Lucasfilm ramp up to the release of the Star Wars standalone movie on digital platforms Friday, we're getting more and more insight into the writing process. Perhaps in a bid to make up for the lack of deleted scenes in that release, these insights include a lot of theoretical ways the movie could have ended.

So following The One Where Vader Didn't Kick Ass and The One Where Jyn and Cassian Survive in an Escape Pod, here comes The One Where Vader Killed Orson Krennic.

Director Krennic, played with spitting fury and caped glory by Ben Mendelsohn, has almost as tragic a story arc in the movie as the Rebel heroes.  Read more...

Cute grandparents are devoted to 2 things: Each other and In-N-Out

If you are looking for relationship role models, don't turn to celebrities. Turn instead to these grandparents who have been married for 53 years.

While they've probably figured out many of the keys to a successful marriage in those 53 years, we'd like to think that number one amongst them is their love of In-N-Out, the California burger chain.

They go there a lot. And they have the photos to prove it.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Cyler discussed the process of bringing the Blue Ranger to life:

Cyler's comments arrive just as other characters on the spectrum are coming to the forefront. On Monday, Sesame Street announced it was adding Julia, the first-ever autistic Muppet, to the regular cast. (Julia had previously been relegated to the show's digital segments.) Detailed security footage shows the alleged journey of Tom Brady's stolen Super Bowl jersey

The strange case of Tom Brady's stolen Super Bowl jersey keeps getting weirder.

Here's how Melissa McCarthy ended up playing Sean Spicer on 'Saturday Night Live'

Melissa McCarthy's uncanny impression of Sean Spicer has become a highlight of Saturday Night Live, and now she's spilling the beans on exactly how she ended up channelling the embattled White House press secretary in the first place. (Unsurprisingly, Spicer is not a fan.)

In a new interview with USA Today, McCarthy revealed that SNL's co-head writer Kent Sublette was the one who initially pitched the impersonation — and she took some convincing.

“It was his idea,” she said. “He called me when he knew I was in New York, so he gets all the credit for that. At first I thought, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he’s like, ‘I just think we have to have an outlet for how so many people are feeling.’" Read more...

Walking with Neil Gaiman is the best thing you can do in the winter

It's quite a godly year for Neil Gaiman, bard of myth, nerd hearthrob and the lucky bastard who got to marry Amanda Palmer

The appropriately outlandish TV version of Gaiman's bestseller American Gods premieres on Starz at the end of next month — while his Norse Mythology has been in the top echelons of the New York Times bestseller list since it came out five weeks ago. Both star Odin the All-Father, played in the show by Ian McShane.

I'm not here to tell everyone they should buy a copy of Norse Mythology and read it cover to cover. It's a simple and straightforward abridged modern retelling of myths first put down by a 13th century writer named Snorri Sturluson. Gaiman himself has called it a "covers album, trying to get them to sound contemporary using electric guitars."   Read more...

Their loss: Gay-owned cafe addresses ignorant customers in Facebook post

Even in this day and age, café owners are can lose customers simply because of their sexuality.

That's what happened to Jay Horne, who's the co-owner of the Paradiso Cafe in Cairns, Australia. Horne heard former "regulars" of his cafe say they would not come back because he and his staff are gay.

Addressing the former customers in a Facebook post, he asked "Do you think you are going to turn gay (if you're not already) if you eat and drink at a gay owned and operated cafe?"

"I’m finding it very difficult to comprehend," Horne told Tropic Now. "The couple had a conversation in which they stated that they wouldn't be coming here any more because we're a gay-owned business. They still walk past every single day but now they refuse to acknowledge us." Read more...

Airbnb's on a problematic world tour to make your landlord like them

Landlords have been among the loudest critics of Airbnb, what with its risks of loud parties and expensive repairs, but the company has a plan to win them over.

Unfortunately, in Australia, the scheme looks half-baked.

Airbnb's director of global multifamily housing partnerships, Jaja Jackson wants to create "solutions that work for the entire community."

In Sydney on Tuesday to roll out the company's Friendly Buildings Program, Jackson claimed the initiative specifically addressed the concerns of apartment renters and owners.

Dance on top of the (very high) Sydney Harbour Bridge like no one's watching

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a popular spot to climb for your average tourist, but celebrities love it too.

But now you can embarrass yourself and scare the crap out of yourself at the same time, by busting a move on a light-up dance floor installed on top of it.

Woman took out an ad on 900 taxis to propose to her boyfriend

One woman in China proposed to her boyfriend by displaying her proposal on 900 taxis.

Apple’s cheap iPad is tailor-made for education

Lost amidst the red iPhone and death of iPad Air hoopla was Apple’s latest attempt to turnaround its education market:

A $299 iPad.

Apple didn’t lead with that news and the pricing for the new 9.7 iPad flagship is only for education institutions, but make no mistake, it’s a critical strategic move and one that could help revive the company’s tablet business.

It’s been decades since Apple and Steve Jobs helped drive through state legislation that put Apple computers in every California classroom and helped trigger much wider adoption of the Apple in grade schools across the country.

Baddeley's K-Walk, named after his late daughter Katie, was started to raise funds for Future Hope, a not-for-profit that cares for street children in Kolkata.

Japan moves closer to acceptance, with another city recognising same-sex couples

Sapporo, the biggest city in Hokkaido, northern Japan, has announced it will officially recognise same-sex partnerships from June this year, according to the Japan Times.

This makes it the largest city in Japan to do so, after the smaller districts of Shibuya and Setagaya in Tokyo legally recognised same-sex couples in 2015.

But this isn't marriage equality, per se. Couples get the city's "proof of partnership" so that they get some rights, such as visitation in hospitals, and discounts offered to families. People can also nominate their partners as recipients of life insurance policies, for instance. Read more...

Cisco's 'Spark' board is basically a giant iPad, but it makes sense

When was the last time you used a dedicated video conferencing room over a video call on Skype, Slack, or FaceTime?

This realisation has seemingly hit Cisco Systems, which is pushing a new "smart" whiteboard to the market.

It's basically a giant iPad mounted on the wall. But it makes sense.

Over the years, Cisco and its competitors have struggled to push deluxe video conferencing gear as widely as they hoped.

By Cisco's estimates, only 1 percent of small firms have dedicated video call equipment, like high-definition screens with microphones. That figure is 5 percent and 15 percent, respectively, at medium and large firms.  Read more...

For two months out of every year, villagers in Adi Etot live comfortably. Crops flourish in the northern Ethiopian community, and natural springs teem with water. Though the water isn't clean, it's easy to collect.

But for the remaining 10 months of the year, water is scarce. The ground and springs dry up, and families struggle to collect water from sources hours away. This water needs to be poured through cloth to filter out leeches and worms, and even then, it's still contaminated by disease-causing pathogens.

This is life in Adi Etot — or it was, until December 2016 when nonprofit charity: water built a clean water well for the community. Now, the organization wants you to connect with Adi Etot in an effort to make the global water crisis personal. Read more...

Twitter finally finds a way to silence Piers Morgan — and for a good cause

It is safe to say that Piers Morgan has stirred some controversy lately, from calling people attending the Women's Marches in January "rabid feminists" to his Twitter feud with J.K. Rowling.

So when he pledged to go silent on social media for 24 hours if the British public raised £5,000 ($6,225) for Comic Relief, somebody saw an opportunity.

After the announcement, Lord Sugar, the host of the UK edition of The Apprentice, posted a video on Twitter offering to pay the entire sum to shut him up.

Instagram had a crazy 2016. With 1 million advertisers, here's what's up in 2017.

2016 was the "defining year for Instagram," says James Quarles, Instagram's VP of Business.

The Facebook-owned app got a new interface (black and white), a new logo (bright colors) and a new product that sounds and looks quite a bit like Snapchat Stories. To sound like a TV ad (or an Instagram spokesperson), that's not all! It's true: Instagram unleashed more updates last year than it ever had before.

But now we're in 2017, and Instagram wants to make sure all those changes and its future steps help the app grow more and, importantly for Wall Street, support a lucrative and sustainable business. Ad sales on Instagram are expected to reach nearly $3 billion by 2017, according to eMarketer, up from $60 million in 2015.  Read more...

Critical LastPass security hole would allow hackers to steal your passwords

According to Google's vulnerability researcher Tavis Ormandy, there's at least one unpatched vulnerability in LastPass that would allows attackers to steal passwords "from any domain."

Ormandy recently reported a few other LastPass bugs, including vulnerabilities in the LastPass add-ons for Firefox and Chrome.

‘Follow your passion’ is wrong, here are 7 habits you need instead

It’s common wisdom. Near gospel really, and not just among young people and founders. Across generational lines, sentiments like those from Steve Jobs’ 2005 commencement at Stanford have been engraved into our collective consciousness:

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle.”

In other words, follow your passion. There’s just one problem: “‘Follow your passion’ is dangerous advice.”

That’s a troubling claim, but it comes straight from Cal Newport’s investigation into “the details of how passionate people like Steve Jobs really got started” as well as what scientists say predicts happiness and fuels great accomplishment.  Read more...

This startup is turning waste plastic into the very roads we use every day

Plastic is a problem. It’s a problem that Scottish startup MacRebur is taking on one mile at a time.

MacRebur is aiming to challenge three major world issues: Repurposing millions of tonnes of waste plastic, saving millions in the cost of road repairs and strengthening our existing roads. The idea for the startup was born when CEO and co-founder Toby McCartney - who happens to live on a road plagued by potholes himself (delete ‘himself’) - visited India and witnessed people melting down plastic they found on local landfill sites to repair potholes. While the method he witnessed on that trip wasn’t particularly environmentally practical, McCartney left with the idea of using waste plastic to replace and reinforce the roads here in the UK and beyond. Australian daily under fire for comparing cricketer to Donald Trump

Australia's The Daily Telegraph kicked up a storm on social media by anointing Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli "the Donald Trump of world sport."

In a scathing piece last evening, the newspaper accused Kohli of destroying the spirit of the game in the on-going series between India and Australia.

The Daily Telegraph noted, "The Indian captain is a law unto himself with no one – not even the ICC [International Cricket Council] or his own board – holding him accountable for his continual perpetuation of fake news... Just like President Trump, Kohli decided to blame the media as a means of trying to hide the egg smeared right across his face." Read more...

Tech workers: Donald Trump's America is forcing us to address diversity

Diversity and inclusion shouldn't be political, but in 2017, it is.

Software company Atlassian came out on Wednesday with one of the first surveys about diversity to be published under the Trump Administration. And things are different now than they were five short months ago.

Almost half of tech workers — 48 percent — told Atlassian that Donald Trump's election as president made them care more about diversity. Forty-six percent of tech employees said they cared the same about diversity before and after Nov. 8.

More than just opinions, one in four tech employees said Trump's election made them do something related to diversity and inclusion. For tech workers who were spurred to action — as many people have been across industries and across America — 56 percent said they tried to learn more about the experiences of colleagues who were different from them.  Half said they engaged their company leaders in conversations about how to create a more inclusive work environment, and 41 percent said they "positively changed [an] attitude towards coworkers different from me."  Read more...

Security hole lets burglars knock out your smart home camera

Smart home systems are supposed to make our lives easier and safer — but some of the most popular connected security cameras could make your place an easy target if your neighborhood is visited by a tech-savvy burgling crew.

Security researcher Jason Doyle recently published a set of three vulnerabilities he found in Google's Nest cameras. The flaws, which take advantage of the camera system's always-on Bluetooth, allow anyone within the devices' Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) range to overwhelm them and shut them down.

Doyle claims he reported the flaws to Google back in October when he first found them, but the company has yet to offer any updates to fix the issues. He decided to go public with the information last week to inform Nest users of their potential vulnerability.  Read more...

The U.S. began enforcing the ban on Tuesday for flights to America from select airports in Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, Morocco, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The ban encompasses electronic devices larger than a smartphone, meaning laptops, e-readers, and more. Doctor performs hilariously graphic rap about safe sex for senior citizens

Ansel Elgort's cover of the unofficial 'La La Land' anthem is the song you didn't know you needed

Need a pick-me-up to get you through the day? Ansel Elgort is here for you.

The actor—and EDM DJ turned burgeoning pop star—gave the world exactly what it was missing all this time: a cover of Ryan Gosling's song "City of Stars" from the film that didn't win Best Picture at the Oscars, La La Land

A crystal necklace dangling from his neck and an awesome shirt on his body, Elgort plays a piano while crooning along to the film's gentlest number, a far cry from his track "Thief."

The new normal: Arctic sea ice hits record low for 3rd straight winter

Welcome to the new normal: For the third straight year, Arctic sea ice peaked at a record low level during the winter season, scientists said Wednesday.

Arctic sea ice cover reached its annual peak extent on March 7, the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) said, at 5.57 million square miles. This is the lowest in the 38-year satellite record, and very likely far longer than that based on other data. This year's peak was about 37,000 miles less than the 2015 record.

When compared to the 1981-2010 long-term average, sea ice extent this year was a staggering 471,000 square miles below the average annual maximum. This means a chunk of ice about the size of Texas, California and Kentucky combined was missing from the top of the world.   Read more...

There is only one man worse at Twitter than Donald Trump

Donald Trump's frequently misspelled tweets put the increasingly fragile world order at risk. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's, by contrast, pose a far greater danger: They threaten America's comedic leadership in a world increasingly dominated by "funny" reddit photoshops and bad homemade cat GIFS.

Huckabee might have failed to secure his party's nomination for president, but he's determined to stay relevant, no matter the cost to our Twitter feeds.

Take a look at his most recent round of tweets and how viral they've become. At first, they might seem impossible to interpret — Huckabee can be inscrutable, like a Jaden Smith of the American right.  Read more...

Footballer who shouted out wife and girlfriend on live TV has totally logical explanation here

Surely you recall the footballer who recently shouted out both his wife and "girlfriend" on live TV during a post-match interview. It was an own-goal for the ages.

Confirmed: Nintendo Switch Joy-Con sync issues have been fixed

Nintendo has finally explained just what was going on with Switch Joy-Con controllers — particularly the left one — de-syncing in wireless mode.

It was a "manufacturing variation," a statement from the company confirms. In other words: something happened at the factory level that left some Joy-Con controllers — not all, Nintendo maintains — more susceptible to wireless interference.

Also: yes, this issue is apparently specific to the left Joy-Con, according to Nintendo's statement. Early investigations suggested otherwise, so hit up Nintendo support if you're seeing the same issue with the right Joy-Con. Read more...

Female faces of student loan debt

Student loan debt may not be exclusive to gender, but women have a tougher time paying it off than men.

Women earn just under 80 cents on the dollar compared with men, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and they’re paying more out of their pockets to service debt. One year after graduation, 47% of women working full time were using more than 8% of their earnings to repay their student loans, compared with 39% of men, according to a 2012 report by the American Association of University Women. Eight percent or less is, according to the report, how much borrowers could reasonably manage to pay toward student loan debt. Read more...

This phone decal company is going in hard on Apple's new red iPhone, and we're here for it

Apple announced a new red iPhone Tuesday — the latest in the company's decade-long partnership with (RED) to combat HIV and AIDS.

If you've got several hundred dollars to spare, you're in luck. Part of the proceeds from the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices will go to the organization, so buying one is for a good cause. (Sort of, anyway: Apple's contributed $130 million from sales of (RED) products over 10 years and made $45.7 billion in profit just last year, so, uh, the margins are pretty slim.)

For those of us who don't have big bucks to shell out on a new iPhone, decal company dbrand has a solution. In a tweet Tuesday, dbrand ribbed Apple's shiny new device with the offer of a $10 red skin you can wrap around any iPhone:  Read more...

Guys: It’s now possible to test your sperm via smartphone

When a man suspects his sperm isn't hitting home runs, the only way he can be certain is to go to a lab to get tested.

You know the scene as a Hollywood gag: a man walks into a closet-sized room with a stack of X-rated magazines and delivers a sample to a lab tech, but not before doing or saying something wildly embarrassing.

While filmmakers play it for laughs, experts say the costly lab visit and prospect of humiliation, or at the very least, awkwardness, might be keeping men from learning more about their fertility.  Read more...
