If these are the Galaxy S8 performance numbers, then we have questions

The pieces of the Galaxy S8 puzzle are finally coming together.

We're already pretty sure this is what Samsung's Galaxy S8 will look like when it's announced on March 29, and now we may know how fast it'll be.

Though it shouldn't be taken as representative of the final shipping version, the first benchmarks for the Galaxy S8+ (that's the one with the larger screen) have reportedly been logged into Geekbench, a popular tool for benchmarking a device's processor and memory.

By themselves, the scores are meaningless. But when compared with the iPhone 7 Plus, Google Pixel XL and the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge/Galaxy Note 7 (RIP), we can get an idea of just how much more performance to expect (or not expect). Read more...

This Russian embassy is attacking western media with a random J.K. Rowling quote

Who knows.

You may have heard that many officials within President Donald Trump's circle have met with Russian officials over the past 12 months or so. Many of them seem to at first have difficulty recalling these meetings until they are asked about them again and again and are shown evidence of their own meetings, at which point they seem to vaguely recall maybe perhaps meeting someone who may or may not have been Russian-ish.

Such communications have already led to the resignation of Trump's initial national security advisor, Michael Flynn. They have now ensnared newly-appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Read more...

Youth basketball coach savagely blocks a kid's shot on his own basket

As any kind of educator or youth sports coach, your goal is to help make your kids better. More than anything, you want to help them grow into good people, to guide them in the right direction.

But sometimes, kids just don't go in the right direction no matter how many times you tell them to. In those situations, you have to dish out some tough love.

That's exactly what this youth basketball coach decided to do when he saw that one of his players was on track to take a shot on the wrong basket. You don't have to be a sports fan to know that scoring on yourself is literally the most embarrassing thing you can do during a game. Read more...

The reviews are in and 'Beauty and the Beast' is exactly what you'd expect, apparently

It feels like we've been waiting years for Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast, and maybe we have. With the movie's theatrical release on the horizon, critics have been to early screenings and tested that tale as old as time.

The film's reviews are neither negative nor positive — it's not a bad movie by objective standards, but falls short of the animated original's innovation because, well, it's not original.

In a review that calls the film a "lifeless recreation," Vulture's Emily Yoshida claims what many other reviewers echo: that the visual effects add style, but no substance. Read more...

Arnold Schwarzenegger quits 'Celebrity Apprentice' because of 'baggage' (aka Trump)

Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be back for a second season of The New Celebrity Apprentice, and it's because of Donald Trump.

In an interview with Empire magazine, Schwarzenegger said, "I learned a lot, I had a great time, it was a really great opportunity, but under the circumstances I don't want to do it again."

Trump's shadow has loomed large over the NBC reality franchise — especially since the POTUS is still an executive producer on the series — and Schwarzenegger claims that the president's ongoing connection with the show is what damaged it.

"It's not about the show, because everyone I ran into came up to me and said 'I love the show ... but I turned it off because as soon as I read Trump's name I'm outta there!'" he told Empire. "When people found out that Trump was still involved as executive producer and was still receiving money from the show, then half the people [started] boycotting it." Read more...

Parking lot dancing queen completely breaks it down

If you ask me, just about anywhere can be a dance floor.

And this woman clearly takes this mantra to heart as she shows off her large repertoire of dance moves, all while in the parking lot of a Waffle House.

Why? Because she can, that's why!

The people inside the restaurant can't keep it together as they watch this queen jam out.

Snapchat protesters 'ain't afraid of no ghost'

A lot of people on Wall Street were very happy with Snapchat Thursday, but a lot of people in Venice were not.

At least two dozen protesters gathered outside Snap Inc.'s Venice Beach, California headquarters to protest Snap's encroachment on the neighborhood as Snap started trading on Wall Street. Protesters worried Snap's multi-billion-dollar success in its initial public offering, or IPO, would encourage more companies to move from Silicon Valley to the emerging Silicon Beach.

Snap moved to Venice in 2013 and since then has bought up real estate for its offices: one house, one apartment building and former retail stores.  Read more...

There's not a single red pixel in this photo of strawberries

Akiyoshi Kitaoka is a psychology professor at Ritsumeikan University in Japan. One look at his Twitter, and it's pretty obvious he has an affinity for making and sharing optical illusions.

One illusion in particular involving a picture of strawberries has recently become a viral sensation, and we are berry confused by it.

How exactly are these strawberries an optical illusion? No red pixels are in this photo.

Rod Stewart says Instagram post showing mock execution was him acting out 'Game of Thrones'

Rod Stewart provoked the ire of the internet Thursday with a hastily deleted Instagram post from the Abu Dhabi desert.

While on tour in the region, the 72-year-old singer appeared in an image on his wife, Penny Lancaster's, page that appeared to stage a mock execution.

The videotaped scene shows Stewart making a cutting motion across a man's neck, as the man kneels over the desert sand. The clip, which has since been deleted, looks eerily similar to Islamic State (ISIS) beheadings that have been posted online.

On Twitter, Stewart apologized and said he and his friends were just "larking about" and the video was "understandably ... misinterpreted." Read more...

Mexican politician slams Trump's 'absurd' wall from atop the border fence

Listen up, Tesla fans.

That said: It is not a fully self-driving system and shouldn't be used as such.

A video posted to the Tesla Motors subreddit and spotted by Electrek shows exactly what can happen when a Tesla Model S driver puts too much trust in his car's Autopilot. It's a reminder that a human driver is always needed in a Tesla, even when the Autopilot system is engaged.

Report: Uber created a fake version of its app to trick and evade authorities

If at first you don't succeed, go to elaborate lengths to trick and evade regulatory authorities trying to bring you down. That appears to be the maxim at Uber, if a new report is accurate.

Investigating users' social media profiles, bank accounts, phone models, and creating a fake version of the app are just some of the lengths Uber reportedly went to in order to operate in cities where the legality of its ride-hail service was in doubt.

According to the The New York Times, Uber systematically messed with officials trying to hold it to account via a complex array of methods including an internal tool called Greyball. Created in 2014, Greyball was allegedly part of an ongoing Uber program dubbed VTOS (violation of terms of service), which analyzes user data to determine whether or not a specific user is abusing the app. Greyball looked at the same data to determine if a user was a government employee. Type 'ceo' into your iPhone keyboard for a sexist surprise

Hey! Did you know that 68 percent of the people who work at Apple are dudes? That tech darlings like Uber have rampant sexism problems? And that only 4 percent of CEOs in the Fortune 500 are women?

And who would have thought it: That male-dominated culture seems to have dripped into something as innocent as your iPhone's emoji suggestions.

If you type in leadership roles like "ceo," "cfo" or "cto" using the default keyboard in iOS, the emoji it suggests will be the default male in a suit, Mashable noticed Friday—even if you include a gendered context word like "she's" in the sentence you're composing. Read more...

Leaving the Paris Agreement would be Trump's worst move yet

The Trump administration is reportedly in the midst of a heated debate over whether to remain committed to the Paris Climate Agreement. (Cue "should I stay or should I go.")

Remy Ma released another Nicki Minaj diss track, furthering their glorious feud

Robots are about to make your beer runs

In the future, your beer will be delivered by by robots that look like big beetles out to set up a golf course.

Virginia became the first state in the union on Wednesday to legally allow robots to use sidewalks and crosswalks just like us humans.

The impetus for the new law is Starship Technologies, which is looking to use its beetle bots to deliver packages or groceries or beer or whatever else you can stuff inside.

The bots won't be allowed to beef up beyond 50 pounds or zip around at anything above 10 miles per hour, though that's still the pace of someone running pretty quickly down the block. Watch this Texas sports anchor elegantly attack transphobic state laws

It's not often that local Texas sports anchors—or any sports anchors, really—come to the defense of trans community.

Dale Hansen of WFAA-TV is a rare exception. Earlier this week, the reporter decided to address the case of Mack Beggs, a transgender wrestler who recently won his state girls' wrestling title. Though Mack identifies as a boy, state regulations require that he competes according to the sex assigned to him on his birth certificate.

Hansen thought this this was, frankly, ridiculous.

"Transitioning is a struggle I cannot imagine. It is a journey I could not make," Hansen said. Are foodie millennials really fueling food waste?

I simply love food. For me, my love of food isn't just about eating, going to new restaurants, or cooking an exciting meal. It's also about getting to explore new cultures, being creative, and reflecting that on my Instagram.

So reports that the "Instagram generation" were being blamed for fueling the UK's food problem really disappointed me.

It struck me as unfair to categorize millennials in this way as so many of the UK's most prominent food bloggers are actively using their platform to minimize food waste.

Inflatable dummy tanks were a critical tactic in battlefield deception

c. 1939

Soldiers lift up an inflatable rubber dummy tank in England.

IMage: Roger Viollet/Getty Images

From their first use on the Western Front in 1916,  heavily armed and armored tanks could sway the outcome of a battle with their presence. As such, armies quickly developed techniques to confuse enemies about the location and number of their tanks.

In the later years of World War I, the Allies built wood-and-cloth replicas of British tanks, hauling them into position with horses and using them to draw German fire away from their real tanks.

The uses and permutations of dummy tanks grew rapidly in the interwar years, with Germany in particular using hand-pushed and car-mounted dummy versions for training exercises.  Read more...

The directors of 'XX' reveal their horror inspirations

XX is a film that's truly one of a kind (which is a damn shame) — a horror anthology that's wholly written and directed by women: Roxanne Benjamin, Jovanka Vuckovic, Karyn Kusama and Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), with stop-motion interstitials by Sofia Carrillo. The movie had its world premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival and is now available in theaters, on demand and online

Projects classified as horror, sci-fi or fantasy — really anything that falls under the "genre" banner — have long been considered the realm of male filmmakers by people who lack critical thinking skills, but there's a reason why Mary Shelley's Frankenstein remains one of the most enduring and influential horror stories of all time; women have an intimate perspective on the myriad vulnerabilities of body and mind that haunt our dreams and creep into our waking lives. Facebook has quietly rolled out its long-awaited solution to fake news

Since people first started complaining about "fake news" on Facebook, the phrase has evolved—from a useful way to identify false-information-masquerading-as-traditional-news, to a term that means basically nothing, now wielded by President Donald Trump against stories he doesn't like, and also, drunk people in bars screaming about things and/or sports results they disagree with.

But the original problem still genuinely exists. And Facebook finally came out with its long-awaited response to beginning to cut away at the issue.

Spotted on Twitter on Friday night, the tool identifies links to sites known to produce misinformation. The tool cites third-party fact-checking organizations like Snopes and Politifact—the kind of sites that Trump supporters also like to dispute.  Read more...

Trump accuses 'sick' Obama of wiretapping and his proof is [INSERT PROOF HERE]

As is custom in the United States, we wake up, yawn, remember that it's 2017, grab our phones, and then, bleary-eyed, go on Twitter to see what messages our president has hastily tapped that will rule our lives for the next 24 hours.

And on Saturday, like clockwork, President Donald Trump was at it again, tweeting  about "wire tapping."

The president appears to believe that former President Barack Obama—a favorite target of Trump's—had directed a "wire tapping" operation at Trump Tower in New York City, where Trump spent the majority of his time before he moved south to Washington, D.C. Read more...

'Divide' is a choose-your-own adventure Ed Sheeran experience

Is Ed Sheeran the right person to be singing Ed Sheeran songs?

That’s something he’s trying to grapple with on ÷ (or Divide), which takes a bolder divide and conquer approach to the British songwriter's well charted genre-hopping ways.

The point was clear from the get-go, when he kicked things off by simultaneously releasing two very different lead singles. "Castle on the Hill" is the soaring, Graceland-indebted song you'd expect from a twenty-something young man with an acoustic guitar and a gift for melody. But it's the song originally intended for Rihanna that immediately shattered a Spotify record previously held by Drake. Read more...

Trump slams Arnold Schwarzenegger in one last parting tweet to end weird 'Apprentice' feud

Imagine it's 1999, everyone's bright-eyed, with possibilities of a new millennium, and the glory it could bring. And now imagine being told that in a mere 18 years, The Terminator would transform into the governor of California, only to devolve back into an aging reality TV host, in a feud with a tabloid-obsessed billionaire, who himself became president only after he hosted said reality TV show.

A terrible idea for a novel, or a sci-fi satire, and yet, it's our current reality.

President Donald Trump and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have been locked in a strange feud over The Apprentice, the reality TV competition Trump hosted before dipping his toes into politics. Schwarzenegger then took the reins of the show after he ended his second term as the governor of California. And because Trump appears to need feuds like the average human requires water, Trump continually tweeted shots at Schwarzenegger's ratings, which he said were no good, very bad, not like the ratings of Trump, no.  Read more...

Beautifully unguarded portraits capture the spectators at a 1943 parade

Image: Library of Congress

In July 1943, a few months before embarking on a four-week trip documenting bus travel in America, newly-minted Office of War Information photographer Esther Bubley was assigned to cover a parade in Washington, D.C.

The procession was one of many publicity efforts to drum up volunteers for civil defense programs.

Bubley snapped a few obligatory shots of the marchers, but found herself more interested in the spectators who lined the parade route.

Taking advantage of their distraction, Bubley crept in close and captured delicate portraits of faces among the crowd.

Louis Tomlinson arrested for battery so yes of course One Direction fans are calling for justice

Like the old adage goes: Nothing's sure in life but death, taxes, and One Direction fans going ride-or-die for their boys, no matter what.

According to TMZ, erstwhile One Direction member Louis Tomlinson was arrested Friday, after allegedly pulling a overbearing paparazzo to the ground at LAX. After the altercation, the photographer reportedly made a citizen's arrest, and Tomlinson was later arrested at an LAPD precinct, on charges of simple battery.

Not eager to be dragged down, the singer's legal team quickly released a statement in Tomlinson's defense. "The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis," it said. "It’s not the first time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity." Read more...

This Uber executive sure sounds defensive about not taking the fall for Uber's harassment crisis

Uber has spent the past two weeks embroiled in its biggest PR (and HR) crisis ever.

But according to a report in Business Insider, the company's head of operations, Ryan Graves, has been missing from the office. Graves used to oversee HR in his role in operations, and was Uber's first CEO before Travis Kalanick.

As per a Business Insider source, Graves has "vanished from the office, hasn't been seen or heard from in days." Uber employees speculated to BI that Graves' absence meant he could be the one taking the fall for Uber's harassment scandal.

Uber's current mess of problems started when Susan Fowler Rigetti, a former engineer at the company, published a blog post outlining the discrimination, harassment, and sexism she and other women faced at Uber. Her blog post was followed by similar stories from other women who worked at Uber, then, allegations that Uber was trying to discredit her, a video of Kalanick yelling at an Uber driver, and to top it all off, news that Uber ran a secret program to evade government officials who were using the app.  Read more...

You need to watch the 'Deadpool 2' teaser playing before 'Logan' right now, because it's just that perfect

For superheroes (and antiheroes), costume changes are like capes: visually striking and highly impractical. That's the lesson Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool learns in this new Deadpool 2 teaser, which is now playing before screenings of Logan.

In the clip, which Reynolds also shared on Twitter, Wade Wilson rushes into a phone booth for a pre-rescue quick change, and it...doesn't go well. But hey, at least the theme to St. Elmo's Fire gets some play?

And in a fun meta twist, Logan pops up in a few places, too—check out the marquee sign behind the phone booth, along with some trash talk to go with it. Read more...

Watch this bro get into the Trolling Hall-of-Fame while taking a selfie with Kellyanne Conway

Taking a video while someone thinks they're smiling for a photo is bad enough. But a sneaky man did Kellyanne Conway one better.

In a video circulating Twitter, Instagram user AJ Pelicci poses for a selfie with Kellyanne Conway, advisor of President Donald Trump and onetime stand-up comedian

Instead of "say cheese," he chooses "Say 'I'm ruining America!'"

Conway doesn't seem amused. "You must feel really brave, saying that," she says.

But everyone else on Twitter is:

Why has no one found his @ yet. I need to propose, I mean, congratulate him https://t.co/HV2kuY8A5P

Here is a glorious infographic ranking Kellyanne Conway's most embarrassing moments

Since Donald Trump named Kellyanne Conway counselor to the president, she's thrown a good amount of fuel into the already-raging political dumpster fire crackling throughout America.

From her questionable inauguration attire to her startling couch etiquette, the self-declared anti-feminist has caused a fair share of controversy —no “ifs," “ands” or “alternative facts” about it.

It can be hard to keep up with every Twitter beef, nonexistent massacre, or merciless brand plug Conway's been involved with, so we've ranked her most embarrassing moments on a nifty matrix chart.

Obama hit North Korea's nuclear program with cyber attacks

Former President Barack Obama wasn't impressed by the United States' missile defense systems. They constantly missed incoming blasts in practice, to say nothing of how they might fare in the face of an actual assault.

Obama was thinking about North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong-un, who's often going on about developing a nuclear warhead that can be fired atop an intercontinental ballistic missile. If this ever happened, U.S. defenses may well not be able to stop it. So, according to a Saturday report by The New York Times, Obama ramped up American cyber-attacks on North Korean computer networks. Read more...

The Russian government trolled Sarah Jessica Parker and 2017 is the weirdest year of our lives

You'd think the strangest story of the day would be two Hollywood stars-turned-politicians, fighting over their shared reality TV gig, but...you'd be wrong.

The Russian government is trolling Sarah Jessica Parker.

To be fair, the Sex and the City actress started it, on Thursday, with a bit of her own trolling, posting a meme someone made of her, playing her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw, doing a pitch-perfect impression of Carrie's narrative voice:

I had to. Don't know the provenance however whoever you are, thank you. X, sj
