Child battling garbage can is a metaphor for 2016
Some kids complain and throw tantrums when it comes to doing their chores. However, one brave young boy is happy to face any task he is given. Although he probably should have asked for some help with taking out the trash on a windy day, since the garbage bin and its lid seem to have some issues with him. We needed this laugh today. You'll be able to buy an Amazon Echo for really cheap this Black Friday
"Alexa, can I get a cheaper Echo?" "Yes, yes, you can." Amazon.com will, obviously, be a prime destination for holiday shopping, with most people buying stuff not made by Amazon. The e-retail giant would like to change that a bit, which is why it's priming the pump by pre-announcing a collection of pretty sweet Black Friday deals for a chunk of its branded hardware devices. The biggest deal, by far, will be for Amazon's voice-assistant-hosting Echo device. The home of Alexa will be $40 off, listing for $139.99. If the tallish tower with music-ready speakers is overkill, Amazon is also slashing the Echo Dot, which can listen and respond, but is not for playing media. It will list for $39.99, a $10 price cut. In a shift sure to give frequent flyers hope for trips filled with Netflix binges, American Airlines is finally getting rid of its notoriously slow in-flight W-Fi. Bloomberg reports that American plans to retrofit 500 aircraft in its domestic fleet with ViaSat's satellite Wi-Fi service, stiffing its typical go-to provider, Gogo. This latest order continues the airline's distancing from Gogo. Back in February, American went as far as filing a lawsuit against Gogo over slow Wi-Fi speeds, specifically citing ViaSat's faster network as the cause for litigation. While the suit was dismissed 10 days later, the gap between Gogo and ViaSat's network speeds clearly continued to be an issue for the airline. Read more... At parties and bars, he introduces himself as a “rat tickler.” The title makes Shimpei Ishiyama sound like he belongs in some forgotten guild of yore, with the Victorian “pure-finders,” who collected dog dung for a living, and the “flankers and flaggers,” who kept partridges in the range of hunters’ guns. But he is, in actual fact, a neuroscientist, and his rat-tickling is anything but antiquated. By trying to titillate these rodents — and recording how their neurons respond — Ishiyama and his adviser are unraveling a mystery that has puzzled thinkers ever since Aristotle posited that humans, given their thin skin and unique ability to laugh, were the only ticklish animals. With seemingly everyone under the sun standing still and sharing videos online, the #MannequinChallenge seemed overblown....until this adorable video of children attempting the challenge sprung up online today. The children, whose ages are unknown, try their very best to keep their surprised facial expressions on lock and stay in place, but have the hardest time standing completely still. The slight movements are hysterical and charming, and it might be physically impossible to smile while watching them. Read more... He's tweeting again! The ever-loving President-elect Donald J. Trump is tweeting again. After winning the presidential election and — for a solid 48 hours — appearing presidential, Trump returned to his favorite social media platform.
Last night's tweet complaining about peaceful protesters, calling them fake and blaming the media was like the greatest hits version of all his tweets. It had the petulance, the defensiveness, the scattershot accusations and the clipped complaint. Read more... Theme parks are awesome. This is a fact of life. The smell of burnt popcorn and the sound of bumper cars colliding gets our hearts racing faster than the coasters themselves. This said, we all have individualized reactions to the thrill of a theme park. While some of us absolutely love a 5.8G free-fall, others' eyes widen in terror at the mere thought. Frontier, a leading independent game developer with more than a decade of experience with SIM gaming, examined these individualized reactions when developing its new game Planet Coaster. Aside from all the bells and whistles of a typical "build-your- own-[park/neighborhood/environment]" game, Planet Coaster goes a step further — into the brains of park guests. Read more... FSociety is going to have a busy 2017! As the United States spirals further into chaos, Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail has made his opinions known by "leaking" a page from the Season 3 script.
Season 3 will premiere sometime in 2017, and while it's unknown if the show will actually address the impending Trump administration, the show did fake an Obama cameo in Season 2 with the power of editing. Oh, Conor McGregor. What happened? Just a couple days ago you were strolling through New York City, bringing smiles to our faces and tears to the eyes of your biggest fans. But it looks like that was pre-pre-fight Conor McGregor. During Thursday's press conference for UFC 205 — McGregor's bout with Eddie Alvarez this weekend — Nice Guy Conor McGregor was nowhere to be found. As UFC president Dana White spoke at the podium, Alvarez casually dropped a chair in McGregor's direction. Nice Guy Conor went nuts.
'Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk' review: Get outside and take a walk instead
On paper, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk — two-time Oscar winner Ang Lee directing an adaptation of Ben Fountain's acclaimed novel — must’ve seemed like a great idea. In execution, it’s an absolute mess, and it has nothing to do with the fact it was shot in 120 frames per second, five times the normal frame rate. No, the problems here all boil down to the story, which is poorly structured and completely, utterly misguided. Don’t let anyone tell you Billy Lynn is a complex war movie about PTSD. This is a film about a group of soldiers trying to get a movie deal done inside of a single day. Big Sexy is leaving the Big Apple. Bartolo Colon, the 43-year-old starting pitcher who spent the past three seasons in New York with the Mets, agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves on Friday. Affectionately called Big Sexy by teammates and the media, Colon is known for providing both laughable moments and surprising athleticism considering his stout frame. He also gave the Mets' pitching depth in a season plagued by injuries. Here's an ode to Big Sexy, baseball's GIF hero. First, to show how much he meant to the Mets, here's how folks (including ace Noah Syndergaard) reacted to his departure. Colon broke into the big leagues in 1997 and earned four All-Star nods during his career, not to mention the Cy Young Award in 2005. Read more... Against long odds, Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton to become the president-elect of the United States of America. And now people all over the world are legitimately worried about what his presidency will mean for technology. Joining me on MashTalk this week to discuss the topic is Mashable chief correspondent Lance Ulanoff and business reporter Kerry Flynn. SEE ALSO: Will you let Google Home into your home? Let's not beat around the bush: Trump hasn't really revealed much on where he stands on technology. That's not surprising since it's widely known that he doesn't really know much about it. As the reality of Donald Trump's election starts to set in, it's reassuring to know that late night hosts are struggling to come to terms with the news just as much as some of us are. CBS' Late Show host Stephen Colbert opened his Thursday night monologue with the same incredulity he displayed on Wednesday: "Hey, so... this is all still happening,"Donald Trump is really going to be the next president," he said to a chorus of boos. "For a while, I was poking myself with a straight pin to try to wake up from this, but now I just keep doing it to feel something." Colbert has been one of Trump's most outspoken critics throughout the campaign, and it's reassuring to know that despite Trump's repeated promises to "open up the libel laws" and weaken First Amendment protections for the media if elected, the host has no intention of backing down. Paid Content ByHuaweiThe humidity in Miami hits like a freight train the second you step out of the airport For Jill Emmer, a photographer on a city-sleuthing mission to document the city through the lens of the Huawei Honor 8 smartphone, though, the heat is more welcoming than oppressive. “Miami is an incredible place for photography,” she says, her Minnesotan accent betraying her tourist status, refreshingly quirky amid the Cuban-tinged Spanglish of South Beach. “Every building is eye candy. The bright colors are amazing,” she adds. Truthfully, it’s hard to envision a place better suited for a photography-based adventure: the palm trees sway enticingly in the ocean breeze and the people-watching is hard to beat. The air itself exudes Miami spice. Read more... More about Miami, Photographer, Cameras, Smartphones, and Phones Read More »Teen contestant makes Alex Trebeck ask the internet's favorite question
Some things never get old. On Thursday's Jeopardy! Teen Tournament, one contestant was stumped by the Final Jeopardy question. Instead of panicking, Sabrina saw opportunity knocking on her door, and paid a brilliant tribute to the internet. The question was: "Roughly half the size of Texas, it's the largest structure made by living creatures and can even be seen from space." While the real answer was the "Great Barrier Reef," the very clever teen wrote, and successfully got Alex Trebek to say, "What are those?" Watch our new hero do it for the internet below. On Thursday night's episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Hailee Steinfeld and James Corden played a game of "First Line, Every Line." According to the rules, the player replaces the lyrics to pop songs with that song's first line. Steinfeld sang Katy Perry's "Firework," Corden poured his heart into Adele's, "Someone Like You," and both came together to perform Madonna's, "Like A Prayer." Considering that both Steinfeld and Corden are talented vocalists, it's not surprising that these two nailed this game, while ruining all of the songs. Relatable deer is already sick of holiday shopping
Though it's unclear how this deer got into his local American Eagle retailer, one thing is definitely clear: he want to GTFO. As Starbucks rolls out its red cups and the radio stations begin playing holiday songs, many of us will have to make our sad way to buy gifts. When you can't take anymore of the caroling throngs and the extra $1 for gift wrap, just romantically remember this deer and how he managed to escape. Just, please, do not attempt this. There are more polite ways to exit a store. Watch this little girl bravely share her truth at an anti-Trump rally
