Domino's Japan is training reindeer to deliver holiday pizza. Yes, really.
Of all the U.S. traditions Japan has adopted, Christmas might be the biggest. And now one company is taking it to the next level by rolling out pizza delivering reindeer. No, it's not the special eggnog messing with your eyes, you read that right, Domino's Japan is currently training reindeer that will pull sleds packing fresh pizza around the country. Aside from the obvious attempt to connect Santa Claus with pizza, the idea for the reindeers came about as a way to continue to be able to deliver pizzas during snowy weather, when a bike is less practical. Donald Trump thinks this whole vote recount business is "ridiculous." That's not exactly surprising, but he's also not just spouting a bunch of nonsense, either. Trump issued a statement on Saturday afternoon calling the Green Party-led effort a "scam." Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has raised nearly $6 million as of this writing to lead a recount in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan — all states where Trump has a combined lead of around 100,000 votes. "This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than one percent of the vote overall and wasn't even on the ballots in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount," Trump said in a statement. "This is a scam by the Green Party for an election that has already been conceded, and the results of this election should be respected instead of being challenged and abused, which is exactly what Jill Stein is doing." Maryland teen Rebecca Malstrom sure knows how to make a statement at the dinner table. After her family requested she change out of her Black Lives Matter shirt on Thanksgiving, Malstrom was more than happy to oblige. Why? Because she found the perfect way to outsmart her relatives... by changing into a different Black Lives Matter shirt. Malstrom said she originally decided to wear a Black Lives Matter shirt on such a significant day because she feels it's important to speak up about a topic "that definitely needs more support." However, because of the political strain from the 2016 election, her family wanted to avoid controversial discussions at dinner. Read more... It appears the internet's honeymoon phase with Justin Trudeau is officially over. While it once appeared as though the adored Canadian Prime Minister could do no wrong in the judgmental eyes of the internet, his statement on the passing of 90-year-old Fidel Castro changed all of that. After hearing news that the former Cuban leader died on Friday, Trudeau released a statement on Saturday morning praising Castro as a "remarkable" leader. In wake of the unexpected words of kindness, shocked Trudeau fans are left struggling to come to terms with the fact that their love affair with the Prime Minister could be over. Read more... A number of drone videos have captured the construction of the new UFO-style Apple Campus 2, but this latest video is the best look we've had yet. The new video, captured by YouTube user Sexton Videography, shows the Apple structures in their nearly completed form, with most of the walls and solar panels now in place. From the main circular structure, to the similarly flying saucer-like underground auditorium, to even the massive 20,000 car parking lot, it's now clear that this solar-powered complex could easily double as a self-sustaining city and/or fortress when the zombie apocalypse arrives. What else is left on this planet for Dwayne Johnson, née The Rock? He is the "sexiest man alive." He has been the Scorpion King. No peaks remain for him to summit. Or do they? In a tantalizing post to Instagram on Saturday, Johnson invited us to consider the possibility of a Rock-tastic Superman. The 'gram shows an authentic Superman costume given to him "straight from the super secret vaults of Warner Bros" by television producer Casey Patterson, and we can't stop imagining him flying between the stars, maybe even tossing a cosmic frisbee to Krypto the Superdog. Well, this is awkward. On Friday, the Wall Street Journal published its review of new film Lion, a biopic about Indian Australian Saroo Brierley, starring actor Dev Patel. At least that was the intention. But Pulitzer Prize-winning reviewer Joe Morgenstern confused the British Patel for New Jersey-born actor and former White House employee, Kal Penn. A.K.A. a totally different person from a totally different country. "Saroo is played dazzlingly by Dev Patel, who gives his richest performance since The Namesake," Morganstern wrote in his glowing review. A wildlife park outside of Wollongong, Australia, is looking for three monkeys and they're desperate for your help. Symbio Zoo made a public plea on Facebook Sunday night, praying for the safe return of three pygmy marmosets which were stolen from their enclosure. Their main concern is for a four-week-old baby pygmy marmoset, who's among the three captured. They say if she's not returned to her mother by Sunday, she will likely die. "We are still appealing for your help to spread the word," they wrote on social media. "Our primary concerns are for our four-week-old baby who has been separated from mum for 36 hours now, so time is crucial to get this little one reunited with mum to enable him/her to feed." We get it, Joe Corré. You're very punk. Son of designer Vivienne Westwood and Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, Corré spent Saturday doing something so anti-punk that arguably, it's punk again. He reportedly burned £5 million ($6.24 million) in memorabilia on the river Thames, London. And you guessed it; not everyone on social media was impressed with the statement-making exercise that marked the 40th anniversary of "Anarchy in the U.K." From accusations of privileged wastefulness to criticism of the environmental damage such a stunt might cause, critics thought the whole thing very foolish. Some comedic genius has quietly renamed Donald Trump's glitzy Manhattan building "Dump Tower." If you Google "Trump Tower," you'll see a pin labelled "Dump Tower" on Fifth Avenue. Don't expect it to stay that way for long, though. Some people online think it was a Google employee who changed the name, although that remains to be confirmed. Changing a landmark name appears to be a manual process that needs authorisation from an employee. According to Google's instructions, changes to the map database are reviewed by hand, so theoretically, someone would have had to deliberately hit "confirm" on Dump Tower. Read more... Japanese city to build 'spamusement' park with hot spring rollercoasters
A Japanese city has figured out how to create a place that will calm your senses, while driving your heartbeat through the roof. The mayor of Beppu, a city known for its hot springs, issued a challenge on social media last week: If this YouTube video hits a million views, he'll build a "spamusement park" in the city. That's right — a hot-spring themed amusement park, where you can soak in a tub while zooming down a rollercoaster wearing only a towel. 1917 Soldiers hoist a field gun up a cliff face. Image: Robert Hunt/Windmill Books/UIG via Getty Images While the muddy and horrific trench warfare of the Western Front has become the most enduring image of World War I, some of the conflict’s bloodiest battles were fought high in the mountains of the Italian Front. At the start of the war in 1914, the Kingdom of Italy was part of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary, but refused to commit troops to their allies’ campaigns, arguing that their obligations were purely defensive. The Foundation update for No Man's Sky is here, and it's remarkably familiar. Didn't Minecraft tread this path already? Back in May 2009, the game that would eventually be known as Minecraft launched as little more than an idea: Players could wander around a procedurally generated open world using tools to reshape it like an elaborate Lego sandbox. A few months later, the earliest version of what would eventually become the game's popular Survival mode — the core of Minecraft, in many ways — was introduced. Both modes of play evolved from there thanks to subsequent updates that added features and sanded down the rough edges. Read more...
